Based on the changes in compensation in college athletics, the Heisman trust decided to return the trophy to Bush.

To be honest, I thought that taking it away was a stretch. Neither him nor his family received benefits for going to USC. It was a guy who wanted to be his agent that supplied benefits to his family after he had already been there. The NCAA also never had any proof that USC knew about it. Fine line I suppose but it came across more like a hit piece and improper investigation by the NCAA than anything else.

Now I'm going to contradict myself - if he had been punished under the rules of the day, I don't see how that rule changing +13 years later nullifies the 'breaking' of the rule at the time. Whatevs.

It's about time. Should have never been taken away. Most exciting and electrifying player.

Not so much as a pro. Only had two 1,000 yard seasons. And wasn't that instrumental during the 2009 Saints super bowl win season.

Now return all the forfeited titles and give SMU $1B compensation.

To be fair it is a college award. He was the most exciting and electrifying player of that season when he was not always matched up against 11 defenders of equal or close to equal abilities.

Also to be fair there have been 87 players to win it (out of 88 years because of Archie Griffin winning twice) and only 10 have gone on to the Hall of Fame. The last winner to do so was Charles Woodson and looking at the players since he won it none of the ones done playing will be talked about for the hall and the ones currently playing either have not been good or are so fresh in their careers it is hard to call it either way.

Without going back over all the players over the whole time and just looking at most from about 1980 on the majority of them have average careers with several having below average or even busts.

The point being winning the award almost seems to foreshadow an average NFL career and not a star career.
