Some amazing irony in even thinking about this ******bag ... but guessing he's grown up some.

Seems like the real deal. Need to scoop him up before another program does.

Him and Traylor are two that I would look at for sure. I want somebody with charisma and a little bit more of a Machiavellian attitude towards football. All of the successful football coaches that Baylor has had have had charisma that Dave just doesn't have. Nice guy though

ian, Rhodes, Rhule & Aranda would all finish no higher than runner-up in a charisma contest.

Kinne's a good coach, but he's not getting hired at Baylor. His handling of the Jayden De Laura situation all but guaranteed that.

I think he doomed himself from consideration from almost all P4 type schools to be honest. I do not think Baylor would be exceptional regarding this.

Yeah. Good point. Ugh. At least not at Baylor. I was not familiar with the details of that situation, so thank you for sharing.

There would be risk for all schools. But it would be more than we could possibly afford to take on after the Briles stuff.

GJ whooped Traylor so he is the best cadidate imo. Plus, hes 20+ years younger.

If Briles' staff can all have jobs still, then Kinney can still land a P4 job with a firm finger wag.

Having said that, I don't think Baylor would be the one interested in that type of baggage while current admin have such ripe memory of the 2016 scandal.

Maybe we could hire his father to be on staff to entice him to be our coach.

That seems like a good strategy.

I do not believe anyone on Briles staff actually mislead about whether anyone had a sexual assault issue until there was just no way to deny it anymore.

It was 10 years ago regardless.

I think second chances are in order.

What do we care when everything these days is about winning anyway - even if it means paying players?

It was this past offseason in Kinne's case.

He'll get a chance somewhere. It just won't be Baylor. And frankly, I'm OK with that. There are other good coaches out there who don't come with that type of baggage.

Our administration definitely doesn't prioritize winning over maintaining squeaky clean appearances. Just the honest truth

I also wouldn't mind doing what Kansas State did and going the FCS route and just hiring the most dominant FCS coach you can find.

The worst thing we could do is to hire another coordinator

This is just wise risk management. It would be foolish and negligent of Baylor to hire a coach with a questionable past around sexual assault.

He beat us last year in our opener. He is a rising star and I was clamoring for him to replace Dave after last years disappointment.

Right now, however, I'm content to see how the game against AF goes. If I'm Mack, Dave would be on a very very short leash.

Mack should be starting a relationship with GJ if he hasn't already.

GJ has a big game tonight. Lets see how it goes.

Unpopular opinion but I hope we pass on Traylor. Dude got his brakes beaten off by Kinnes squad last week. I was curious how he would fare without Frank Harris. If last week is any indication… not good.

The best coaches (and frankly maybe only good coaches) in Baylor history have been hired away as head coaches from another program (Mulkey, Teaff, Briles, Drew). Not all have worked out, but that seems to be part of the secret sauce.

Not sure if we've had any success with the coordinator or assistant coach route.

Agreed. Given that, a top shelf FCS coach would be ideal.

Depending on how this season goes, Kinne may bump Traylor for next in line. Texas State is playing what appears to be a decent Arizona St team tonight, it will be quite telling

Anyone we hire is going to have to check a lot of the boxes that are unique to Baylor, and I think people know what I'm talking about. Better have the testimony, squeaky clean background, able to stroke Mack and Linda's ego, etc.

In other words, it's not going to be a "best person reasonably available" type search

We sure did. BU is also 10 games under .500 since Joeys tenure started at Tech. Tech is 4 game over .500. I'm not a Joey fan but he's at least producing winning seasons.

As others have said he won't be at Baylor because of his issue dealing with that kid and his situation.

However, a blue blood or SEC/Big 10 team that wants to compete and win will overlook that or give him a clear expectation when hired and give him a shot.

Just look at all the retreads that have been given second shots at those two conferences with checkered pasts.
Big12Fan2024
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Will have to figure out the defensive side of the ball to ever get a shot at competitive B1G or SEC school. Maybe a non-competitive program like Vandy, Mississippi St or South Carolina would kick the tires, but that's about it.
