In many ways, he represented the tail end of what made college football fun. It was fun having traditions and colors, old regional rivalries, players who chose your school and not your NIL deal. It was fun watching a football coach turn around a program instead a booster and when players could play for your school for 4 or 5 years. Conferences had histories and schools had inside jokes about one another. ESPN covered and reported on sports, with fun spins and fun commercials. And football coaches - whether winning or losing - were often larger than life and could even make you laugh. Remember when college football was fun like that?

It will be real interesting to see how viewership is affected in the near future. Not to mention NIL, BMD's, financial enthusiasm and so on. The have's (few) and the have nots (large #'s).

Always loved that guy. And he clearly loved his players and students.

Man, I miss the Pirate. I always tried to catch his press conferences even when I couldn't care less about his teams. One thing is for certain, the laughter in heaven grew exponentially the day Mike showed up.
