He threw himself under the yellow dawg Stephenville bus. The limp-wristed AD at the time could have saved him. Hell, I could have saved him. It was a self-inflicted enema!

You guys still gnashing your little nubbing teeth need to get yourselves out of the circle jerk and let the pivot man, RightRev, get a life. Speaking of enemas.

Do you notice how Thee only uses personal attacks and foul language? Thee all that does it make people respect you less. We disagree about how the scandal was handled. We have a different opinion. You can show self-respect and respect for others in this situation though by not resorting to crude responses.

I disagree with those who want to bring Briles back. Not because I think he was at fault, I just don't think the relationship between him and Baylor can be repaired. I don't make crass statements towards them though. I would love for Baylor to openly apologize and make steps to repair his reputation.

Briles can never again be an effective HC at the collegiate level. Not because of the scandal or his reputation or any of those extracurricular factors. The truth is that once you are out of D1 football for more than a season, your career is pretty much as good as over.

Where are Les Miles and Charlie Weis?

Possibly Urban Meyer or Nick Saban could be the exception here, but I doubt it.

Part of the reason these guys get such big buyouts is to take them off the market if it doesn't workout. Believe me, the A&M AD would die if Jimbo ended up at TCU and started kicking ass.

Sadly, Briles will never be an effective coach at a D1 college football program ever again.

Should've hired a defense firm.

Instead, we hired a couple hairy legged women (who couldn't figure out why the team had so many black men) to come prosecute our own folks, without the benefit of giving them any warning or legal counsel.

Nice job

For years I've assumed it was solely a jealous rage of the Briles teams success that provokes his
hatred and babbling rants, but I bet you are right on this .
Y'all have played that sad jealous card multiple times. I posted here years ago that I did indeed think my 1979 and 1980 teams were some of Baylor's best ever.

Until.....................................................................1985 and 1986 out performed the '79 and '80 teams. I quit measuring our team against others after Cody Carlson/Tom Muecke and Ray Berry/Robert Watters eclipsed my teams. I admitted it in 1986 and never thought about it again.

I also pointed out that the 1980 team needed no help in securing the conference championship. We won it outright without having to depend on another team's help.

Jealous? No way. Saddened because in 2013 I was still 100% on board and even 2014 I was still yelling my @$$ off for the Bears to go undefeated. Just like I did every year. Even this year.

Art went 65-37. That's .637. That's good enough for a tie for 4th in the Baylor coaching successes.

Personal attacks are earned.

Foul language? In today's world? 2024? I am tame by today's standards. You say I am crude? Limp wrists? Enemas? Circle jerks? All facts of life and since it did not get blanked out by the board administrators I assume it is not near as crude as you suddenly want it to be.

I never came onto a sports bulletin board looking to earn respect. I simply used my 4 years of Baylor football and 4 years of limited professional football experiences, knowledge and my "insider" Baylor pipelines to take an unpopular, opposite stance that is rooted in FACTS. Most of you guys have no clue about football reality and I have been proven correct over the years no matter how delusional some of you hero worshippers are and intent on re-writing history.

I would like Art and his staff to apologize to Baylor for the damage they did. None of this would have happened had discipline, tighter internal controls and adherence to Baylor traditions and old Baylor mores been reviewed each year with Art & his staff. That was the job of the President and the AD and they were too drunk on 9, 10 and 11 win seasons to get their manicured nails dirty.

This combined with age and all of the modern changes to college football (transfer portal, NIL, conference realignment, CFP changes, etc.). No one wants a coach that is not familiar with these concepts within the immediately preceding 12 months of a potential hire.

Only 3 times did we ever meet/speak. I never called him. Ever.

1. December 1976 - Art was supposed to be my host when I visited the U of H on my recruiting visit. He was there the first night only. He took me to a U of H basketball game where a U of H alum handed him a wad of cash to show me around that weekend. (1st rule broken). He then took me to see the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, then a party in the U of H athletic dorm room of Lombardi & Knute Rockne Award winner, Wilson Whitley. (witnessed 2nd rule & law broken that night).

2. Baylor Bear Golf classic in the spring/summer of 2008. Reintroduced myself and reminded him of December 1976 in Houston. 32 years later. Typical small talk and I welcomed him to Baylor. Told him how excited I was.

3. March 25, 2012. Atlanta, Georgia prior to the Baylor vs. Kentucky basketball game I ran into Art & RG3 prior to the game. Crowd was following them. Did not want to bother them and the adoring crowd following them. Again, small talk. Congrats. Etc.

I never spoke or called him after these 3 encounters. I never felt like I needed to.

I do think however, that even prior to me souring on what was going on behind the scenes (2013 or so) that one or two of the kneecap busters wearing knee-pads "warned" Art about my outspoken assessment of Kevin Steele when he was in Waco. Even Kevin had a large number of Baylor Brown-nosers who clung to the robe. Needless to say I was not a robe clinger.

Keep trying boys!

The 1980 team was undefeated in SWC play. Art could not do that. Instead he got crushed by OSU and WV. That was a 7-6 WV team that beat our tails 41-27.

Jealous?

3,050 days!
Let's remove the first 2 years of rebuilding and he runs off 7, 10, 8, 11, 11, 10 win seasons......Art is the BEST coach in Baylor's History. Period. Grant T barely finished over .500
Why remove anything? Baylor had nearly given up fielding a football program right prior to GT's arrival. He fought through this malaise and produced winners against horrific odds.

Art had facilities and support (both financial and administration wise) that GT could only dream of. Had Grant had what Art had to work with one can only imagine the outcome.

I don't buy that logic one bit......baylor was a crapshow when Art came on board....GT have over 20 years and other than a few 8+ win season, he was mediocre... His results today --- you'd all be asking for his firing...

In the 8 years prior to Grant's arrival Baylor went 22-59. That's a .272 when they only played 10 games/year.

In the 8 years prior to Art's arrival Baylor went 26-66. That's a .283 when they played 11 and then 12 games/year.

In the 8 years after Grant's arrival Baylor went 41-49 or .455 when they played 11 games. Grant teed up Miami, Georgia, Oklahoma, Pitt, Florida State, Kentucky, Ohio State, Michigan, Ole Miss, Auburn, South Carolina, Illinois, Nebraska, BYU, Alabama in non-conference.

In Art's 8 years Baylor went 65-37 or .637 when they played mostly 13 games. Art littered those 8 years with the likes of Northwestern State, Buffalo, Sam Houston, Stephen F. Austin, Rice, SMU, Louisiana Monroe, Wofford & Lamar.

Baylor is not even in the Top 100 winningest programs. We are currently 632-649 counting ties as losses. .492.

Let's not go down the scheduling discussion again...I am sure buried deep in the bowels of Baylorfans there is plenty of discussion regarding the lack of scheduling by the AD, not the Coach. During GT years, most of those games were away and Baylor received large sums of money to go and play.

We can agree to disagree. I don't think that GT should be placed on the pedestal that some of you do...

It's buried deep alright. Deep in your keister!

Are you a junior high football fan who believes Art had nothing to do with those mighty mites he punished??? Those juggernauts sacrificed themselves at the altar of NCAA statistics of Biblical proportions.

GT scheduled the blue bloods of college football for the $$$$, the exposure, the resume and to recruit kids who wanted to tee up the best. AB shucked and jived with the Wofford Terriers and fans like you got stiffies by watching our O set records while bailing out our stellar defenses.

A quick look back at the 1980 Southwest Conference reveals that it was quite weak that year. Perhaps help was needed from every team to secure that championship?

It was weak that year. Arkansas, Houston and Texas had all been in the top 10 the previous year but dropped off a bit in 1980. 5 SWC teams played in bowl games that year.

No help was needed. We won it on our own and had we not let San Jose State beat us we probably would have played somebody other than Alabama in the Cotton Bowl and finished undefeated.

Not sure that Baylor would have beaten anyone on that day. 30-2 beat down with 7 turnovers and 157 yards of total offense.

Look I love Coach Briles and we did him wrong but it's been a decade
And your point? If he is available and willing.....bring him back.

He's probably a better man than I am, but I'd be more interested in taking over at TCU after Dykes is fired and hanging 40 on my former employer every year for what was left of my career.

But he turns 70 next year. Thanks to the cowardice of the Baylor administration and the malevolance of the media, those days are probably over.

We choked! Not quite ready for prime time.

Those turnovers were deep into BU territory.

You know my wife pointing this out to me the other day when I was talking about Art. "Baylor screwed Briles, so why would you expect them to be good. You cant do wrong by people and expect things to go in your favor." Crazy part is that never crossed my mind. Pretty sure Im done buying season tickets after this year. I will just watch the trainwreck from my coach
