As much as I would like to see the PLAYERS go on this 6 win streak and make a bowl. I think if they lose the remaining games Dave is still not going anywhere. Baylor is not spending the money to replace him, Mack is not going to fire him and Linda is not going to lift a finger anytime soon...

It's a lame duck situation at Baylor.

One more stumble? So if we finish 7-5 and win a bowl game to go 8-5, we should fire him? That's silly.

You should judge a team by the direction it's going. If this game turns into an anomaly like last year's UCF game, then yes, you can pull the plug on this whole deal. But if they find 3 more wins and get to a bowl, combined with the good recruiting, I see another season.

The thing that gives me hope is that this wasn't like UCF last year. We were in control the whole game. Every time Tech threatened, we answered. We played a horrendous first half against BYU and a horrendous second half against ISU, but I'm still seeing good things.

I don't think we're strong enough to finish 5-0, the teams are too close together quality-wise. But I can see 3-4 more wins, and to me that's an upward trajectory. Conversely, there is a chance Tech only wins one more game and they look much like our team from two years ago.

Given our strength of schedule the rest of the way, yes.

Bad OSU at home
Bad TCU at home
@ Bad WVU
@ Bad Houston
Bad Kansas at home

Running the table and winning a bowl is what it is going to take for him to prove he has finally figured it out.

We had built a program that was challenging OU and UT for conference supremacy a decade ago. Never forget that. Demand excellence.

Good points and agreed, if CDA goes 7-5, he is definitely getting another year. As he should.

Yeah, but Realitybites says if we win out and lose our bowl game, he should be fired.

Agreed. I think most fans have the above viewpoint. After 3 years, one has to be hesitant about embracing Aranda again after one good game. It's kinda like a wayward girlfriend who comes home after her 12th run about town in 3 years. You want to make sure she stays around for a while before declaring the all clear sign.

I don't think most Baylor people in general think Baylor should fire a HC for winning 7 or 8 games in a season. Specifically I don't think most Baylor people think Aranda should be fired should it turn out we 7 or so games this season. It seems a few of the voices that are the loudest think the majority agree with what they say in their echo chamber here.

Echo chamber. Great. What I'm saying is generally, most fans probably have a wait and see viewpoint on Aranda. Could I be wrong? Sure.

Said before, if Aranda can get the team to win he absolutely has earned it. I do not have a ton of confidence in his ability but I honestly don't care who the coach is or who the staff are. Just care if we are competitive.
Tech was a great win. That's his job. He did it. Hopefully they team keeps some momentum.

The thing about Aranda is the back half of this season and a bowl game if he runs the table doesn't exist in a vacuum. It exists with the background of last year's disastrous season, and more importantly the multiple stupid game time decisions he has made (going for two, defensive pressure against the Colorado Hail Mary, etc). This is as much about the direction the Head Coach is going as the team.

Joey and Dave were a great combination in 21. They are very different and make up for each other's deficits. Alone, each has some significant deficiencies. Does not mean that they can't be successful, but the one who learns to shore up his weaknesses the best Will have the most success.

I'm not sure if being recruited in today's environment that I would sign with either one of them.

What we see is different than what the players see and get to know.

This is the same way I feel. I've said several times -- even as our program sank to embarrassing depths -- that my preference would still be that Dave Aranda turn us around.

Contrary to the thoughts of some, I don't hate Dave Aranda. In fact, there's a lot off the field that I really like about him. But he has to win games, and the first six games of this season basically destroyed any confidence I had in his ability to do that.

That said, if Saturday's win is the start of a strong run to end the season, and we're able to finish with a bowl appearance and a winning record, I'd be much happier about that development than upset to be wrong about Dave Aranda. I still want to be wrong about him. And thanks to the win at Tech, the ball remains in his court.

Beat Oklahoma State and TCU, and let's build some real momentum.

The sad part is some would here still would have preferred that Baylor hired McGuire over Aranda back when Aranda was hired despite knowing how things unfolded since that point in time.

I've never understood the Joey love. He is a really, really nice and charismatic guy, but he isn't a good head coach. I don't bet, but my best guess is that he's gone around this time next year - he does not have the same leash at tech that Aranda has enjoyed here

I don't agree with the love but I understand why it was there two weeks ago.

Prior to the Tech game we were 2-4 and 0-3 in conference and Tech was 5-1 and 3-0.

It was easy to look at those records and say we should have hired Joey instead of Aranda.

I would agree except for the 2021 season. Aranda's body of work has been fairly poor otherwise, but Joey has not had 2021 level success just yet.

To be fair, I have yet to come across a Baylor fan in real life that would trade Baylor's 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 seasons for the same seasons turned in at Tech. 2024 may turn the tide if McGuire can make the Big 12 title game though.

Good point. How many 10 win seasons does Tech have this century? How many Big 12 titles? I don't think that number is high, one of each under Leach.

I don't believe Tech has ever won a Big 12 championship, or even played in a championship game.

For that matter how many 10 win seasons did Tech have in the last century? I did look it up they had one 10 or more win in 08 under Leach this century.

According to Wikipedia, for what it's worth, they won a conference title in 2008, finishing the season 11-2.

Oklahoma defeated Mizzou in the Big 12 Championship game that year.

Tech had a chance to get in, but lost to OU 65-21.

Tech has never won an outright SWC Title, has never won an outright Big 12 Title and has never participated in the Big 12 Championship game.

Hah that's for sure.

Tech could be pulling an aggy and trying to claim it. The only thing they could legitimately claim is a tie for the South Division Title. Definitely not the conference championship.

That's what it was: tied for South Division title.

I'm glad the Big 12 doesn't have divisions anymore.

When I saw the thread start I just viewed it as a reaction to techs and our records at the time and a "should have / what if" thing for the joey lovers.

I didn't want either of them, so I have zero interest in comparing them to each other, nor their bodies of work as head coaches.

That was the year Texas, Tech and Oklahoma all went 11-1, with Texas beating OU, Tech beating Texas and OU beating Tech.

The Tech win in Lubbock, which came in the final minute, cost Texas a spot in the national title game.

It will be tough...but if TT can beat Colo in Lubbock next week they've got an outside chance to make the B12 Title game.

They would own tie breakers over other 2 loss teams Cincy and Colorado. If we beat TCU tonight that makes them a 3 loss team.

KSU just became another 2 loss team. WVU and ASU are the other current 2 loss teams and TT plays WVU in their last game.

BYU obviously controls their own destiny.

Between one loss Colo and one loss ISU I'm not sure which one of them would control their own destiny. They don't face each other.
