Only one team has blown out Baylor this season and they're sitting pretty in the top 10 of the AP poll. Do you believe Tech is as good as ISU?

I answered that in my post before the one you replied to above..

Matt Campbell didn't need to have our game circled..or have any revenge..to go on a 40-7 run in the second half..

It's because we suck.

I don't believe Tech is as good as ISU, but our weaknesses just might be weak enough for them to blow us out. I don't really say that with excitement, but the secondary will have to step up in a very significant way for us not to get blown out, which I deem to be a 20 point deficit. Thus far, our secondary has not been able to stop anyone.

Lubbock has been a nemesis for BU even when we fielded actual football teams. Never fared real well there.

At least it's an away game. BU has been a nemesis to BU in home conference games since 10/22/2022 - the last conference home game they won.

Agree but no need to gloat about the game in that manner. He is and Aranda have a good relationship and respect each other. Let's leave it at that.

Okay, Dave leads the head to head 2-1 I'll give him that. It was a great game by the Bears and most complete game they've had probably since 2021. But it's just one game. I don't think it's time to anoint Dave as the next Nick Saban.

We're still two games back of his team in the Big 12 after today's ass-whipping. We've finished behind him in the Big 12 standings every year he's been at Tech.

Celebrate the win. Don't be stupid.

Aranda has the head to head. He's also 12-20 (7-15 in Big 12) over the last three years, a period over which Joey has gone 20-13 (13-9). I'll trade them records any day.

Great win today, though. Hopefully we can do something with it. Next week at home against Oklahoma State is a must-win if we're going to build some momentum and salvage this season.

Check the aranda vs Joey head to head. Clear winner Aranda. Whata, coulda, shoulds ofs of secondary comparisons have limited meaning. If any. Heck, not long ago TT fans were ready to run Joey off. Both are good guys who need time to build a program in the NIL era. Tack the 20 mil it would cost to fire Aranda and build him a power house team.

They're both bad coaches Aranda is the better coach McGuire is the better program guy and has better resources, neither will ever see any meaningful success beyond what they've already done

So the 12-20 is better than the 20-13 because the H2H favors Dave? Makes sense…
Aberzombie1892
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Both coaches came into good situations from a roster perspective, and one coach capitalized on it by turning in meaningful positive results while the other did not. Beyond that, the coach that did not reportedly has much stronger in-going NIL support and he still hasn't turned in any such results - this does not appear to be on the path of changing this season.

I would say McGuire has had the NIL advantage until Dec of 23. I wouldn't say he does now. But I don't really know for sure maybe he still does. The effects of our NIL haven't started coming in fully yet.

Head to head is always the truest measure. All else is speculation due to varied opponents, weather conditions, injuries. The Utah team we played is different than the utah team TCU will face. Injuries change teams from game to game. Only true and fair measure is head to head as it removes all secondary factors and has coach facing coach.

So let me get this straight… any coach who has the H2H over say Nick Saban is a better coach than Nick? That's the hottest of hott takes if I've ever seen 1

Aranda inherited a program that had just played for the Big 12 title and went to the Sugar Bowl. McGuire inherited a program that averaged five wins the four years before he arrived, with one winning season in its previous six.

To suggest the two inherited similar situations is absurd.

McGuire's roster in his first two seasons was loaded with super seniors - and Baylor's wasn't - and it's no fault but McGuire's that he couldn't capitalize on it in order to turn in a memorable season.

The Tech roster was loaded with experience. It wasn't loaded with talent. Those players couldn't win games in the Big 12.

Aranda inherited a bunch of players and excellent depth from a top-15 team.

Those aren't the same things. McGuire succeeded by getting Tech to eight wins, something no one had done there since 2013, and posting a winning Big 12 record, something no one had done there since 2009.

We could have won 96-7 and my opinion of McGuire is still that he is a great coach. I look at a coach's entire body of work, not one game. The Joey fan club members are alive and well. Tech has one big 12 loss this year. Great win by us today. But we have one big 12 win.

Sincerely,

You sit there and gloat over one game and act as if one game gives you the right to call someone a legitimate nobody. McGuire is a great coach, and we have won one game. Dave Aranda has had 3 years of misery. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. McGuire the nobody is 5-2 right now and did not go 3-9 last year.

Great win by Baylor today, but calling people nobodys is a crap thing to do. And in this case not accurate.

The sad part in all this is that some here wanted the Nobody that has Accomplished Nothing to actually beat Baylor today.

McGuire is a good assistant coach. He's an adequate head coach. He's accomplished nothing at the college level that would warrant the moniker of "great coach."

I think he'll be successful at Tech, but Tech-level success. So an 8-9 win ceiling. Enough to keep him around, but not enough to keep Tech fans from calling for his head after losses, as they are tonight.

Someone remind me what players did Dave have when Baylor won the Big12 Championship? Some could argue a good crew of players and assistant coaches won the Big12 that year.....

You sound like you like Dave Aranda. I am glad we won, But let's face it, I'm not sure exactly how glad I should be, if that makes sense. I'm not about to get on board with this staff after one game. Happy for the players though.

But to directly answer your question, I wanted Baylor to either win or to get completely destroyed so as to speed up Aranda's departure. Turns out we won.

This will be my sentiment every week through end of season. If we had not gone 3-9 last year, my reasoning would be different.

McGuire seems like a good dude and we should be thankful of his work with Rhule to rebuild our program.

But he was never the answer for Baylor. His team was horrifically unprepared for us. Don't think Aranda is an answer either but yesterday was a nice win. Probably best win since OU in 2022. Let's see if we can build on that win.
Realitybites
How long do you want to ignore this user?
If Aranda somehow runs the table and wins a bowl game to end the season 9-4 on a 6 game winning streak he probably deserves another year. One more stumble, especially how weak the backside of our schedule has proven to be, and he should be out.
