Rex Ryan advocating for Deion to be the next Dallas Cowboys Head Coach...

It can't be any worse than what we have now...and it would definitely be entertaining.

But....I do like having him as a B12 coach.

Cowboys won't really be great again until Jones stops trying to be HC. Maybe the Cowboys can fire Jerry Jones!

Sanders certainly does bring lots of attention to Bug 12 football. All their games are nationally broadcast with lots of eyeballs.

I'm not sure that college football has ever been "pure"... But I get his point.

I can understand where a lot of these old-school coaches aren't crazy about all these changes to the college football landscape.

I read somewhere Purdue is sympathetic to Walters as they are aware they've given him basically nothing to work with.

Norvell's buyout is prohibitive. He will be back in Tallahassee.

Pittman will probably survive with his Tennessee win and the cloud surrounding the House ruling. They have the money to fire if it steps up.

Auburn making a classic Auburn. Freeze will come back but next year could be his last.

I don't see OSU firing Gundy. It could happen but who do they hire that is for sure better? One thing T Boone I think always understood.

Temple fired their coach today….. a day after a win but only the 3rd this season. He only had 3 wins each year in his other two seasons with them.

If true I would think his head coaching career is over.

FAU is not the best destination but they should still be able to get plenty of talent from Florida, especially the late bloomers, missed guys, etc. and perform decently well (at least in conference play). Sort of like several of the Texas schools in G5

If one really wants to know what the Steele era was at Baylor they should look at the Walters era at Purdue thus far and then imagine it being a little worse than that as it stands right now at Purdue. Seeing their scores flash up on the screen on Saturday's makes me think of Baylor back in those days. Walters is in year 2, they probably have to give him at least another year to signal to other coaches they don't fly off the handle.

I don't think it would have mattered in the long run because I don't think the financial support was there for upper tier conference finishes because that wasn't the admin mindset IMO, but it would be neat to look back and see what would have happened if we had just taken a knee in the UNLV game.

Just saw that FAU might be considering Ray Lewis as a target for their head coach.

Maybe going the coach prime route with a famous name and he went to college in the area.

I think people forget that a lot of coaches start in the high school level, even former NFL players.

I just looked it up and an article from 2021 said there were 169 former NFL players that were current high school coaches (head or assistant). Some were stars some were guys who played a few years.

There are several in the college level with varying success.

Trent dilfer
Eddie George
Jeff brohm
Scott frost
Deshaun foster
Harbaugh

And those are just the ones I could think of currently. I know there are a ton more, especially if you count the guys that were drafted but never played or only spent one or two years in the league.

Rice Owls narrowing head coaching search

Tim Beck, K.C. Keeler, Tim Albin among top candidates for Rice Owls head football coach opening following dismissal of Mike Bloomgren

Vanderbilt offensive coordinator Tim Beck, Sam Houston head coach K.C. Keeler, and Ohio head coach Tim Albin have emerged as serious candidates for the Rice Owls opening, according to multiple sources. Expect Rice to decide in the next week or two with early signing period set for Dec. 4-6.

Beck, who is currently calling plays for Vanderbilt in the SEC, worked his way up the staff at Division II Pittsburg State, eventually becoming the head coach of his alma mater in 2010. He led the Gorillas to an 82-35 record and the 2011 DII national championship. He was an offensive analyst at TCU in 2021 before following Jerry Kill to New Mexico State, where the pair found quarterback Diego Pavia.

Keeler is the only head coach in history to win national titles at two separate FCS programs, winning it as his alma mater, Delaware, in 2003 and Sam Houston in 2020. The only active college football coaches with more wins than Keeler are Brian Kelly and Mack Brown. He's only six wins from moving into the Top 20 all-time. His Bearkats are currently 8-2 and in contention for a CUSA championship in Year 2 as an FBS program. They beat Rice in Week 1.

Albin is 55-27 since becoming the head coach at Ohio in 2021. He arrived there in 2005 as the offensive coordinator. He was the head coach at Northwestern Oklahoma State, his alma mater, from 1997-99, leading them to the NAIA national championship in 1999 before joining the staff at Nebraska.

Sources say Skip Holtz is not in the running.

Former Rice head coach Mike Bloomgren was fired in his seventh season on Oct. 27 after the Owls loss to UConn in Week 9 to fall to 2-6 on the season. He was 24-52 as the head coach on South Main, ushering Rice's move from CUSA to the AAC ahead of the 2023 season. His Owls reached bowl games in 2022 and 2023, but never finished a season with a winning record.

Central Michigan's coach will retire at the end of the year. Jim McElwain. Former Florida head coach.

He was one of those that went from a big school and sort of resurrected his career at a G5 school, although he will leave with a record just below .500 at the school but an overall record just above .500 for his career.

Off the top of my head, the main hot seats would be Florida, FSU, LSU, Arkansas, USC, and Oregon (if lanning goes to NFL)

But Napier is guaranteed another year

FSU and LSU have insane buyouts

Not sure what USC is doing with Lincoln

I reckon Arkansas keeps their coach

I think it all goes back to what was mentioned earlier in the thread about the upcoming court cases/possible legislation and players getting to profit share or be employees of the university and schools just haven't figured out how to pay a head coach several million, plus all the assistants, plus all the players and still have money for everything else. So the way I have understood it from articles I have read is that everyone basically is getting a "pass" this year because of it.

Tulsa fired their coach today after another blowout. Just two seasons for him. I bet they miss Montgomery who at least kept them in most games.

Pundits are saying that the recent penalties brought onto USC by the NCAA because of coaching issues give USC the ability to get rid of CLR if they want to without having to pay out his contract since it wasn't the university that was behind the issues but the coach. I don't know if this is true or what the ramifications behind that are.

Some ND fan came on a USC football board and pointed out some article that appeared in an Irish sports report that addressed how USC has a coach who came from, what the ND article deemed, an average Big XII conference. And things aren't looking good.

I have to wonder though too because we almost lost to a pretty paltry ucla team this past weekend. After having already lost to two lower level Big Ten teams as well.

So the inference being made is that coaching in an "average" conference made this dude look better as a coach than he really is?

That would be the ND opinion, not mine, as I didn't pay much mind to his record in the XII, other than I know he lost to Baylor a couple of times (?). How did he fare against the rest of the conference? Squeakers?

Because that's what's happening when he plays the (former) PAC 10 teams, as well as the new Big Ten foes.
He may have beat the XII teams, but he's not as consistent in his new conferences.

It will be interesting to see what happens going forward.

USC scored one touchdown against ucla on Saturday evening? And this with an offensive genius at the helm. The fans are getting restless.

USC can't afford Riley's buyout so would have to fire with cause which can become messy if they try to go that route.

The House ruling is making many teams slow to pull the trigger as if they pay a big buyout they may not be able to pay for a new coach and all the players

I mean, the Big12 was average back then but not in the way it is now. Lincoln Riley consistently made the CFP and put up good fights against really talented SEC teams (Georgia and Alabama). The only one that blew him out was 2019 LSU. I would argue that every P5 conference was average compared to the SEC back then though

Riley was a good hire on paper in my opinion. He was a Heisman factory during his time and won the Big12 every year from 2015-2020 (Baylor won in 2014 and 2021 funny enough)

I think the problem with Lincoln Riley is that he isn't fit for the Big10. He's not a great defensive coach which is what you need in that league. I think he would be better if he came back down to the Big12. I think Colorado would be a good fit if Deion ever left

Under CLR, OU won 11-12 games every year except one: 9 wins in 2020. Baylor beat them in 2021, a year in which we beat everyone (we lost to OSU in the regular season but we beat them in the conference title game) and again in 2022 in Norman (only other time Baylor won there was 2014).

In Riley's last year, they struggled to win in Lawrence. By halftime, Kansas boosters were calling on fans to come to the game late to watch the fun! In 2022 they struggled against Kansas at home and lost to them in 2023, Venables's first year. Wins over OU & Texas signaled the rebirth of Kansas football which is why their stadium is undergoing extensive remodeling & they are playing home games in nearby KC.

I realize USC thinks they can get whomever they want, or that whomever they get will bring back the glory similar to all blue bloods see Texas post DKR and post Brown. BTW I am not saying that Trojanmoondoggie is this way. I do not see who U.S.C. would turn to actually if they fired Riley today that would not be underwhelming to their partisans. Maybe they think they could get Lashlee from SMU? I wouldn't be so sure of that though.

But I had heard as well that the sanctions give at least the fan base the view that they have an opening to make a change. As is the case everywhere though the fan base's thinking doesnt mean making a change has even seriously crossed the mind of the USC administration.
