Underrated Performer for Baylor against Oklahoma State: Devyn Bobby
The biggest question surrounding Baylor last week was whether the Bears were capable of not just putting together back-to-back Big 12 victories but also getting a meaningful win at McLane Stadium. Baylor checked both boxes in dramatic fashion as their offense exploded once again, and they cruised past Oklahoma State 38-28 on Homecoming.
Once again, the Bears were able to establish their rushing attack, and quarterback Sawyer Robertson (RJr.) picked apart the Pokes’ secondary, completing 11-19 passes for 222 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. Robertson also showcased his versatility with a 41-yard rushing touchdown.
While it’s been awesome to see Baylor’s offense start to come into its own, what has made the Bears so successful in the past two games is their ability to play complementary football. Even though there is still plenty of room for improvement on defense, the unit has held up its end of the bargain for most of the season and is starting to get some relief with the offense finally able to score some points.
This week's underrated performer goes to safety Devyn Bobby (Jr.). We’ve discussed the need for others in the secondary not named Caden Jenkins (So.) or Carl Williams IV (So.) to step up and contribute, which is exactly what Bobby was able to do — especially in the second half.
Bobby was caught out of position on a few different occasions against Oklahoma State while trying to guard Brennan Presley (Sr.) and gave up a 56-yard pass to Da’Wain Lofton (Sr.) in the first quarter, but he made up for it over the course of the game.
The Pokes went tempo down 31-20 and tried to test Bobby and Devin Lemear (RJr.) relentlessly. Bobby made two crucial tackles on Presley and then helped polish off Ollie Gordon II (Jr.) before Oklahoma State converted a fourth down to keep the drive alive. Oklahoma State elected to go away from Bobby for the remainder of the drive before capping it off with a touchdown run by Gordon.
Oklahoma State would get one final drive on the night but never went Bobby’s direction again. He finished the game second on the night in tackles for Baylor with six, four of which were solo. The Bears will need this type of continued production from guys like Bobby down the stretch as they continue to push to become bowl-eligible.
