I was going to say, I've seen posters on here talk **** about other teams who won games against rivals or in OT against teams whose records weren't that great and storm the field. Glad we won the gameβ¦but we didn't even become bowl eligible, it wasn't in dramatic fashion, and according to most everyone on here TCU isn't a rival for usβ¦

Agreed. Storming the field in this case is totally fine, and if I were there I'd be right in the center. TCU's record was irrelevant in my mind. The fact that we had beaten them just once in 9 years is, to me, the overriding factor.

Just want to make sure I mention how dumb the play slow, oh let's bomb it deep play calling was in the final drive. Wr didn't try to hurry up until 30 seconds left, and we had plenty of distance to go still. Had we needed just 1 more play, we would have gone to overtime.
The run game through, that final drive, just goodness. Can't believe we had lost 8 of the past 9 to TCU, coming into this one. Makes it sweet.
I didn't like the third-down call before the fourth-and-long conversion, but other than that, I thought we played that final drive really well. They couldn't stop our run. The best course of action was to chew up yards and clock and win with a manageable last-second field goal just like they drew it up.
We started the drive with a minute and change. It is a bad idea to run clock at the beginning of the drive, then hurry at the end. We had timeouts, and they had timeouts. You can always take a knee after a big play and run some or make them take their timeouts. It worked out this time, but again, we put ourselves in a bad position where it was getting statistically more likely we were going to overtime, burning clock so far back in our own territory.
But maybe the thinking was we just needed to burn clock early in the drive, because we didn't have it in us to score or get first downs. And an accident that we scored. That would make more sense. I just think it didn't look like good final 2 minute offense.
And I want us to go for it with a minute and change, tied. Not just focus on making it hard for the other team.

No, it's not nitpicking. That series was not a well run series. Players had to bail out Spavital. True, those 2 30 yard routes may have been options by Sawyer, but that doesn't change the fact that we had to convert on 4th and 9, and it never should have come to that.

1st down - Run. Run was working all night inside. Washington was killing it.
2nd down - 30 yard pass. How many PI's were called all night?
3rd down - 30 yard pass. Same as 2nd down
4th down - 12 yard pass in the middle of the field. Simple route hard to defend.

You guys are letting perfection get in the way of success. I have no issues, the continuing responding and using the clock at the end to win it is good clock mgt and coaching. You have lost your objectivity. You give the Coach crap when he loses and then say the players bailed him out when he loses?????? They can do nothing right. 3 game win streak, beat rival. Showed great resilience. Fans enjoyed it, swamped the field. A good time all the way around.
We'll disagree. If you think that particular series was run well, then we are way off in terms of analysis.
I separate the result (a win) from the process. And on that drive, the process sucked.
Suppose we would have had 2 personal foul penalties on the OL on 1st and 2nd down setting up a 4th and 25 situation, which we then converted and won. Same sort of situation--bad things setting up a 4th down that never should have been that difficult. Bad process/great result.
No it is not. Two penalties is a lack of discipline and a coaching issue. Not converting plays in the red zone that were executed well but the other team stopped them is football. They came up with the right play and executed it on 4 & 11.
Those are two much different scenarios.

That's the biggest issue with fandom. If we make a big stop on defense, we made the stop. If the other team makes a stop, it's because we screwed up or made a bad coaching decision or bad play, etc. I'm sure to this day, Okie State fans say they lost the Big 12 championship because of bad play calling while we will always say it's a great individual defensive play.FLBear5630 said:

It was a great individual play. Their play call was actually good. They got what they wanted - isolation of a back on a corner for the game. We lost to Colorado because we screwed up the hail mary, missed a field goal and fumbled the ball at the 1. Colorado fans will say they won because they made a great play on the pass and a great defensive play on the fumble.
I will eat some crow. I said on this board several times that I did not think Aranda could beat TCU because it was too big of a game, and he could never get his team to match intensity. Obviously, I was wrong.
