Clark Lea is in His 4th season at Vandy and is 15-30 let's pump the brakes a bit there.
Year 2 at Temple ended 6-6. Year 2 at BU ended 6-6...then a bowl win. Year 3 at both programs is when his teams made really big jumps.
He's got 2 more shots to get Nebraska to 6 wins and a first bowl invite since 2016.
He seems roughly moving at the same pace as last 2 college stops.

Nebraska, like much of the B1G due to recruiting geography and unlike the hey days due to rule changes, is not a location where it's easy to win at a very high level. Nebraska will eventually become a perennial bowl program one way or another, but recent conference realignment has lowered their ceiling from where it was and its alumni will need to come to terms with that.
Nebraska seems to be having the same problems as it had last year. He's starting a true freshman at QB and replaced his OC with Holgorsen. That reeks of desperation. He really needs a win this weekend vs. Wisconsin.

I love process-oriented coaches that see a program through tough times and achieve success. However, I wonder if today's college football programs no longer operate that way. NIL money changes everything. For people like Saban and Tony Bennett to just quit is telling. I think we will see more after this season. I think Matt Rhule likely knows he has a three-year turnaround window at most places -- and only three years, if things don't work out. But this is definitely a different landscape. I think what he does will still work long term. But he's likely only got one more year to prove it in Nebraska.

Colorado is obviously better in the short-term -- although Nebraska gave them an ass-beating when they played this season. But Colorado doesn't have a trajectory without Deion. When he leaves, so does all this fun everyone there is having. And I don't see any reason to believe he's a long-termer there.

I guess I'm confused by the OP. Were people expecting Nebraska to be in the playoff this year?
It is just his second year. I expect they will be better next year and end up being a pretty OK program going forward, but likely not the world-beaters they dream about.

He was an identical 5-5 in his second year here, just like Nebraska, and, like 2018, no ranked wins. He had a massive letdown at home against TCU in game 11, only to salvage bowl eligibility a week later against Tech.CaliBear00 said:

It takes about three years to get his players developed and the mental toughness aspect down. He recruits NFL size and speed at every position, especially at DB and it seems to work for him. It was his recruiting class that won Aranda's conference championship.
The talent he's collected will really start to pan out in season three. He has the former number one QB prospect in the country starting. These second year struggles are no different from his previous stops.

I said this a few years back and I'll say it again, when the huskers left the Big 12, they lost their Texas High School connections. Same can be said for Arkansas, Colorado and Missouri. Ruhl isn't gonna get those important Texas footballers.

Thank you for making the thread complete.
The only thing Lea did right at Vandy was hire Jerry Kill, who then brought 5 of his staffers from NMSU, his QB who was Conference USA player of the year, his TE who was also all Conference USA and 3 more high level players along with Kill's offensive strategy from NMSU. Otherwise, Lea was well on his way to be fired at the end of this year.IowaBear said:

Aranda needs to do some type of replacement scenario on the defensive side of the ball with his two secondary coaches.

Matt Rhule saved Baylor football. We were on full life support after the attempted murder of the program by the media. Rhule rebuilding the program as a gritty, tough, disciplined team is the only reason we have a team worth caring about today. He may have used us as a stepping stone, but he absolutely left us better than he found us. You can't recruit to Nebraska. There is a reason they have sucked since partial Qualifiers are off the table. Six coaches all didn't suck.
