Is COL still a dumpster fire and Sanders a joke?

I think a big part of Deion's success is his name. He's able to draw talent based on his name recognition. I wonder how that would translate to the NFL where players are drafted. In his defense, people have underestimated him and his proven many critics wrong.
He does preach accountability, if you can't play you won't be on the team long. He will either cut or make so miserable you leave. I wonder how that would work in the NFL, cutting the #1 pick. How does Deion deal with D Watson? I don't know if that is a fit...

Fat chance he's not coaching in Boulder next fall. CO better enjoy this little run. I might add that BU heavily aided that run by giving up the Hail Mary that should have never happened

I think he might be back next year just because it doesn't look like many schools (especially P4) are going to make any changes this year while waiting to see how legal things work out. Now the NFL might call but for college I think he would have to wait another year for a bigger name school (like maybe Florida state) to call him.

He wasn't preaching his own accountability during the Prime Prep scandals.

He has absolutely been worth it for CU. Better to have had it for a few years than to be dead in the water with no direction like they were before.

I have a good buddy whose son goes to CU, and he's been all in on Deion from the beginning. He told me early last season if you listen to Deion not being Primetime but just being a coach, he's actually a pretty contemplative guy who admits he's still learning to be a coach. But you have to get past the soundbites that are all you see and read on ESPN

I really never had the time to watch a CU press conference, so I take his word for it.

I have heard the same. I work with someone who has a son that plays for Colorado. They can not say enough good things about him. The players love playing for him.

I've never been a fan of Prime....but taking over a 1-11 team and breathing life into the entire program in just 2 years has been impressive. He is packing out that stadium and growing a national audience for the Colorado brand.

The big question is will he stay. He's saying all the right things about committing long term...but we've seen plenty of coaches say that before bolting. He is still drawing a lot of attention from highly rated recruits.

It'll be interesting to see what happens over the next several months. For Colorado and the B12 I hope he stays. He's ratings gold.

Why would an NFL owner make an expensive move without expectation of it working?

You clearly have not been a Cowboys fan the last 30 years. You are lucky.

I am not sure if he will stay, but if he can win, make it worth his while AND give him total control I am not sure he will find that anywhere else. If he gets into the Playoff, he may say this is better than fighting all the time.

Pretty sure Colorado is happy with the Deion hire, and the ROI in both performance, media coverage, and $$$ has been well worth it.

Even if you don't like Deion's personality, it's very hard to downplay what he's doing there.

On another note, I'm probably equally impressed with SMUs turnaround in such a short amount of time.

SMU's is more sustainable IMO because their donors aren't going anywhere. Even if Lashlee leaves, they'll be able to attract talent.

Colorado's success is too tied to Deion IMO. When he leaves, they're back to Square 1.

That said, I would agree that that hire has been a net positive. I just don't think this success is something Colorado will sustain post-Prime.

I am impressed by SMU. But, they have the money and the know how to operate under this current system. So I am not surprised. Pony Express rides again...

It will all depend on who they get to replace him and if that name can generate the same level of excitement to keep the fans and money coming in.

Not sure if it has been mentioned yet, but Colorado just landed the #6 overall 247 composite quarterback for the 2025 class. I don't think the guy is an amazing coach (he isn't bad like people act), but bringing in talent is at least half the battle if not more, and he can do it

As long as he can bring the horses into the stable, he just needs quality coordinators and assistants to do the X and Os

They are one of many average teams in an average league. The worst could beat the best on any given day. That said, that is light years ahead of where Colorado was before he got there.

Given the chaotic state of the conference (especially at the top) that Hail Mary keeps looming larger and larger - especially from BU's standpoint.

They've gotten lots of attention, the money is rolling in, & they have had a good season (not great). The big question is how long will it last? No one knows.

He is great at marketing and branding. He really knows how to take advantage of coaching at a school that has gold as one of its official colors. The opposite of our marketing people who ditched the school color for mustard yellow.

His kids leave after this season. And make no mistake, Deion is solely about Deion. The next highest paycheck/contract (wherever that may be) will get him.

And do not get confused, Deion is no college football head coach. All fluff, no substance. Without his boy and Hunter, the 'buffs might very likely be winless.

So, your hypothesis is that a team that is 8-3 and in the conference title hunt is a dumpster fire because they lost to a team that beat two other ranked teams in the prior two weeks. Are you stupid?
boognish_bear
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yep...CU is still very much alive for a chance to play for the big 12 title.

There are obviously no dominant teams in our conference…but Colo looks like one of the better ones.

Keep in mind that CO avoided ASU, BYU and ISU this year. They had/have an incredibly favorable conference schedule this year

Which is why I say the committee has to consider schedule strength more than any criteria.

In fact other than head to head..it's my first criteria.

These mega conferences where everyone doesn't play everyone isn't ideal.
