Do we go after him? High upside, low floor. Considering what we're losing, we could stand to bring him in if we also manage to get some proven production.

Come home to Central Texas, young man.

Freshman that played in 5 games. Finished with 8 catches for 123 yards on the season.

Kind of sucks to lose a year of eligibility with so little playing time.

That or it's because they only got him 8 catches. What a waste of talent

I really hope we throw the bag at him. We have a ton of offensive upside next year, but adding talent at receiver would be huge given that we are graduating Baldwin, Presley, and Hawkins.

His limited production was not his fault, and he is obviously very skilled. In fact, I remember one of his catches quite well:

Why would Tech not use him that much?

He kept doing this in practice.

They had three receivers this year with 600 or more yards. And a tight end with over 300. There are only so many snaps and catches to go around, and the guys who played ahead of him are all good, veteran players.

That would kind of be like calling Jadon Porter's season for us a waste of talent. Who should be be playing ahead of?

Jadon Porter wasn't a 5 star. Tech had a lot of games where they were up a lot over their opponent, I would've cooked something up for him in those scenarios

Speaking of receivers. We're definitely going to need to make that a priority in the portal along with DL and Secondary (safeties)

Regardless of star rating, Tech had three receivers who were likely better than Hudson at this state of their respective development.

Josh Kelly (89-1,023, 5 TDs), Caleb Douglas (55-762, 6 TDs) and Coy Eakin (45-605, 6 TDs) are all really good, reliable receivers. We can argue the wisdom of bringing in a bluechip recruit at a position of strength, but benching good players to satisfy freshmen is a good way to lose games you might otherwise have won.

This is particularly true in an era where you can just add a transfer to fill their spot at at that position the following year -- as they did with Kelly with Douglas.

Don't know about the first 5 games, but DMN indicated he was injured for the latter part of the season.

I suspect we'll add a couple from the portal. But Cameron, Trigg and Porter aren't a terrible place to start. Add another slot a la Hawkins and a high-volume outside receiver from the G5 ranks, and I'll be happy.

Porter hasn't proved anything yet and Trigg tends to disappear (playcalling perhaps) will definitely need 2 proven wideouts to compliment Josh while working Porter into the rotation .
A downfield threat would be my choice as well

I want to see us add two established receivers (one inside; one outside) through the portal, so I'm not disagreeing with you. But I think we've got a solid nucleus to build from.

I think Porter will be very good. He just hasn't had a path to playing time this year because of the depth and experience we have both inside and out.

And I think Trigg is a great weapon. Our offense is just designed to attack each particular opponents' weaknesses, so we spread the ball around and have a new hot hand every game.

lol. I do wonder if 'portal bluffing' will become a new tactic to get a raise. He also might've had people in his corner telling him to test the waters. IDK

You're right. Bluffing will be rampant. And now coaches are going to have to also figure out whether they are just being used as pawns, creating more work that in the end turns out to be in vain.

The good news is that every team will have to put up with this.

All of these games have got to drive the "old guard" of coaches crazy....
PartyBear

They can make a rule that the if one enters the portal and comes back to the school, they are suspended for 6 consecutive games of the next season, starting when the HC says. That way a player better be sure about entering the portal and creates incentive to not use the portal just to Jack with the current program and staff for more.

Coaches have to recruit their own players, too. Sometimes they just need your attention.

Agents are sharks. They probably definitely told him to test the waters.
