This seems about right, but I think Baylor, TCU, and SMU could all end up being the second best behind Texas. All three teams have talent and coaching staffs who have shown they can make it happen, but not with any consistency. I personally would probably have put SMU ahead of us considering they are just out of a playoff appearance and have their starting qb coming back. But for what it's worth, I do think we have a good shot of beating them in week 2 in Dalls.

The bad news is that very few Texas (the State, not the school) football followers, for some reason, seem to put much stock in the magazine's college coverage, or value their "insight". Most people buy and read the magazine for it's high school coverage, and pay little heed about their college coverage.

Hardly anyone makes note of their post-signing day college recruiting assessments or preseason rankings, prefering to highlight other national magazines and college football websites like Rivals and On3 for their rankings for their recruiting hauls.

When was the last time you recall anyone making a big deal about getting a commitment from a DCTF magazine 4-Star recruit, or make a big deal about their pre-season All Big-12 conference players list? If it's not from one of those other magazines or websites, or some list coming out of the Big-12 Media Days, it's seemingly dismissed out of hand! To be honest, the only time anyone mentions the Dave Campbell Texas football "bible", is when they offer up some unexpected praise for YOUR team!

I remember the long-ago days when I eagerly looked for and grabbed a copy of DCTF as soon as it hit the magazine racks.

Of course, back then we had no Internet. Not even home computers. Maybe not even electricity??

Cool. Thinking about how BU sped up over the season I could see that.

There's a lot of parity in that list from number two to about number six

I've seen national lists that put Texas first overall in the country.

I'm not sure what that would be based on considering all the players that are leaving. I guess they have the most resources to replace them and get even better ones, but who knows.

Probably just an opinion trend that means jack squat, like pretty much all power ranking and bogus polls that should have no bearing on anything.

Seems like last summer we were falling in like the 8 to 9 range in Texas. It's hard to put much stock in preseason rankings… but nice to see our program getting some respect.

Guess we will find out pretty quickly on September 6 if he's got the #2 and #3 teams in the right order.

The one thing I can figure is the #1 recruiting class this year and the #6 class last year and Manning is stepping in at QB.

They lost 13 starters. That should mean a drop off.

Baylor really should make the playoffs within a few years.

If they will give the Big 12 two representatives one day, it could be very soon.

Somehow we are probably a couple too high on Texas Football and way too low on Barstool. Barstool looks like they drew schools out of a hat.

SMU deserved their spot in the playoff, but they also avoided the #2, 3 and 4 ACC teams in the regular season, then lost to the #2 team and got housed by PSU. They were a good team that got a great draw, and took advantage. Their best win was... @Louisville? They didn't beat a single team that finished the year in the top 25.

If we do what we're supposed to do against Auburn (which would mean our defense took steps), we should be a 3 or 4-point road favorite @SMU in week 2.
