Historically speaking they have never won the XII or the SWC either for the matter except for that 4 or 5 way tie in 94. So that question as to which conference the XII or SEC are they more statistically likely to win isnt an easy one to answer.

Has a winning conference record every year...and their 6-3 record their best in 15 years.

And beat OU and UT in same season for first time ever .

So he hasn't been chopped liver...all the while dealing with a multitude of injuries at the QB position in his 3 years there

Tech's inability to ever really get over the hump in a single year amazes me. I don't understand how they've never even had the kind of one-year bump we got out of Rhule or Aranda. (Briles was a whole 'nother animal. And they went after him, which would've worked, but couldn't get him.)

The issue is every offseason he sets the expectation that Tech will be particularly good and every season he fails to meet the expectations that he voluntarily puts out. He literally calls the 2024 Tech season a "complete failure", and he even hoodwinked the Big 12 commissioner into believing Tech could have actually defeated Texas in 2023.

At this point, no one really believes what he says regarding what to expect from Tech - and rightfully so.

McGuire has gone 8-5, 7-6, and 8-5 at Tech with three bowl appearances and 2 bowl wins. Look at Tech's history, and he is outkicking his coverage. Having such high goals/expectations is part of why he can actually get to 8 wins in the Hub City.

No they did more than state they pay players. They were bragging about the 10 million figure and claiming XII title next season. It could end up akin to something like A&M's paying Jimbo. Who knows.

College football did not benefit.

2024 worked out well for Ole Miss.

I would agree but for the fact that he benefited tremendously in his first two seasons at Tech due to additional COVID eligibility loading those rosters with super seniors, and, if anyone underestimates what a loaded super senior roster can do for a program, check out 2023 Washington. While he benefitted from those players, he failed to turn it great results - double digit wins, Big 12 title game appearance, etc. - unless we are saying that 8ish wins is great for Tech. It is without that context, but with it it's not.

It's Tech.

They spend money and talk big but have never done anything in anything.

They've been spending money on NIL for years and have a revolving door in brown town. Recruits get there, experience the perpetual haboob and skate back to civilization.

Well……then perhaps they shouldn't be making a big deal about the 10 million they spent then if what you say is true and that is about what everyone else in the XII is spending as well. Either way if you are wrong and that is quite a bit more than the other XII are spending, it still not wise to be bragging and making promises of the title to their base based on the spending.
