Dang straight, they should wear those uniforms all season in JJ's honor.

I was thinking yesterday looking at the clips etc. that who would have thought back then in a future of big money and big outfitters 30 or so years down the road that those locally made unis would end up being far more cool that what we would be wearing in 30 years during said era.

I would be content with those JJ Joe unis and no alt unis.

I am just now fiding out about this. Gut punch. Other than my dad's Baylor jersey from the 60s, J.J. Joe's 13 is the only Baylor jersey I ever wore... still wear it to games this day. He was my absolute favorite growing up!

Thank you for all the memories Triple J!

Rest in Peace brother.

So, the other family connection I have is that my other uncle (Ronnie Laurence - Baylor Football mid 1960s) was a coach at Arlington Lamar under Coach Peach. Uncle Ronnie was one of JJ's coaches at Lamar and I'm sure had an impact on JJ coming to Baylor. Ronnie passed away a few years ago - wish I would have asked him about J.J. Joe in high school.

So, as an elementary age kid then, we went to all of Arlington Lamar's playoff games. So I did get to see J.J. Joe play in high school as well. (I just dont remember it from being too young.)

Wasn't one of his sons a pretty darn good athlete? Where did he end up playing?

The loss of J.J. leaves a profound void in the hearts of those who knew him. To honor his life and contributions, a prayer service will be held on March 7, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, followed by a funeral service on March 8, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Both services will take place at Forest Hill Church of Christ, located at 3916 Forest Hill Circle, Forest Hill, TX 76140

Absolutely not! It's never a bad idea to attend a funeral.

So sad, I have been sad all these days since his departure. I was at BU when he played for us, so much fun to watch him play! RIP JJ, so many people have left in the last couple of years that I have known... tragic for sure, coming from someone who lost his wife two years ago due to depression. We got married when I was attending BU and she was part of my college life. I enjoyed listening to JJ during the football games, he was definitely good at it and you could tell he really loved Baylor! I remembered that my wife used to tell me that when someone would go to heaven, it was bc they had fulfilled their mission on earth, hard to understand on my end....

You will be missed JJ Joe.....

Prayers for his family...

Not a whole lot on YouTube from way back then, but here is a typical JJJoe play we ran numerous times:

The games that are out there are mostly our stinkers from that era (1991 Rice, 1991 & 1992 Aggy, 1992 LaTech, 1992 Colorado), but here are a couple of better ones.

1991 TCU:

And the 1992 John Hancock Bowl over Arizona:

His ability to nonchalantly hide the ball on his back hip while waiting for Melvin Bonner to run free over the middle wasn't seen again around here until RGIII. Unfortunately no apparent YouTube highlights of that on display from 1991 Mizzou and SMU, or the famous "Alumni Special" vs Georgia Tech in 1992.

Thank you for your work on these games

I was a Freshman in 1992, and JJ Joe had a good year. I loved watching his long passes to Melvin Bonner.

Yep those passes to Bonner need to be unearthed. They were exquisite. I'll miss him on the radio. He was always enthusiastic and never took a night off.

Who could replace JJ in the broadcast booth on gameday?

RGIII would be the popular choice, but he is probably committed.

Phil Bennet would probably be a pretty good choice.

Heck, put Art and Phil both in the press box with J-Mo. Maybe slip the broadcast in Dave and Spav's headsets in case they need "guidance" during the game.

just an incredible guy, he was a neighbor also. In recent months, we had some pretty deep conversations about family, life, aging parents. He spoke so highly of his wife, they were always walking the neighborhood together. I'm going to the visitation tomorrow night. Still can't believe he's gone. What a great model for Christian men.

I'm still hoping that somebody in the athletics department is working on a highlight reel.
