Top-40 Prospect, Four-Star EDGE Jamarion Carlton Commits to Baylor over Texas

Temple (TX) High School EDGE Jamarion Carlton‍ has committed to Baylor over Texas, LSU and Texas Tech. He becomes the second EDGE commit in the 2026 recruiting class, joining Tyrone Morgan‍.

BAYLOR 2026 RECRUITING CLASS COMMITMENT LIST

The 6-foot-5, 260-pound edge is the fourth highest composite rated commit all time for the Bears, only behind Robbie Rhodes, KD Cannon and Jarrett Stidham.

He is a consensus four-star prospect and a composite top-five recruit in the state of Texas, along with the No. 39 prospect overall. He is listed as the third-highest rated defensive lineman in the country.

Carlton holds offers from Michigan, Ohio State, USC, Ole Miss, Florida State, Texas, LSU, Texas Tech and Texas A&M, among many others.

Carlton put it together as a junior as his film and production took a jump; he posted 57 tackles with 11 tackles for loss and five sacks. He has immense NFL upside if everything comes together and a frame that is already developing to the point where he will very likely play a significant role as a true freshman.

This additon moves Baylor’s 2026 recruiting class into the top 40 in the nation and fifth in the Big 12 with just 15 commits.

If he had committed to Tech, they would be blasting what they are going to pay him. I think Tech's strategy on that could back fire tremendously on the staff.

While Baylor fans should be excited to see this level of talent wanting to play for Baylor, let's understand that if ut wants this recruit they will buy him away because there's ALOT of time before he actually signs his commitment letter. I truly hope he sticks with the Bears but be ready for those schools recruiting him are not going to give up.

I think the assumption that a big school can still pay more is at least not a proven fact post-House settlement. UT has the same revenue sharing cap Baylor does, so any financial advantages has to come from NIL, which now has to purportedly go through the clearing house to measure against "reasonable market value." A DE from Temple is not going to have any significant actual marketing value right out of the gate, so to conclude UT can simply "buy him" assumes a lack of effectiveness in the new House clearinghouse structure that at this point is unknown. But yes, of course other schools will keep after him so long as they think there's a chance, but I also don't think we can assume the financial dynamics are unchanged post-House (and by the way Baylor did pretty well holding on to top recruits even in the pre-House wild west).

They did want him:

Except 20% of Baylor's revenue is likely half the amount or less than the amount that is 20% of UT's revenue.

Provided this class holds up, that's great news. I've always paid greater attention to classes that are ranked highly on quality is opposed to quantity. Most probably do I'd think.
