With the consensus expecting a close game, I'll say it will be a blowout. Just not sure who gets whipped.

Grew up near Auburn across the Georgia line. Had a few friends play football (and tennis) at Auburn. A classmate is a professor there and many friends attended.

Hope you enjoy your visit to Waco except for the game!

DAWSON

WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Baylor running back Dawson Pendergrass will not get the chance to suit up for Bears this year.
In a press conference Saturday, Baylor head football coach Dave Aranda said Pendergrass has suffered a season-ending foot injury.
The junior running back was the team's second-leading rusher in 2024, running for 686 yards and six touchdowns on just 121 carries. Pendergrass also caught 11 passes for 103 yards and one touchdown.
In his two years at Baylor, Pendergrass has rushed for over 100 yards in three separate games.

I was in a Dothan (southern Alabama) mall about 25 years ago and noticed Tide red all over the place. I expected some small nod to Auburn but didn't notice any. Seems like they were almost on par with Bama at the time. Marketing?

Anyway, what are y'all now? Tigers? Rebels? Plainsmen? War Eagles?

These have been mentioned before but here you go...

Waco zoo - for a city the size of Waco that's a very nice zoo. Walks from one shady spot to the next to view the animals and stay out of the sun. Opens at 9 and I'd get there early to avoid the heat.

Mayborn Museum Complex:
This has a lot of great rooms for toddlers and elementary school kids and unlike the zoo it has air conditioning.
This museum is on the Baylor campus. This place reminds me of "children's museums" in other cities.

If you get a chance, go to Scmaltz's to get a sandwich. I also recommend Ninfas for Mexican food and try the fajitas ala Barry. Pretty unique fajita in my opinion.

If you are making the trip, go to George's, have a Big O and get the t-shirt. Kind of not a trip to Waco with that.

I think you will find most Baylor fans to be pretty hospitable and helpful. If you see a guy in a Baylor jersey with a gold chain, sunglasses and a bear costume on, he is harmless but will fight you if you tell him you think TCU belongs in the big 12.

I hope you enjoy your trip to the heart of Texas. Get to your seat early enough to enjoy the running of the Baylor line. It's kind of our thing.

Here is where Auburn fans are at on this season/game.
We are on Year 3 with Hugh and this is put up or shut up time for him. Last year we lost alot of close games and while we didnt have the best QB play Hugh has to take some of the blame. How we do this year will come down to Jackson Arnold. WRs and DBs are Elite. Those are the two clear position groups that we have that I think are on par with the top teams in America. OL should be improved. So far in Fall Camp the DL and LB have impressed which is interesting because that might be the biggest question marks I had going into Camp. RB room concerns me a ton. There is talent but they have yet to show it.

In terms of expectation for result of the game most everyone believes this will be a close game. If you are a sunshine pumper you think we will win, If your doom and gloom you think we will lose because we havent proven it yet with Hugh. Time will tell.

Personally I have no clue.

Thanks for your time! Pumped that the season is almost here and to be in Waco in 3 weeks!
when you're sweating your tail off in the first quarter, keep in mind that this is an exceptionally cool summer for Waco as we have only had one day, July 31st, where we have reached 100 degrees this year. That will make you feel much better.

I saw that the other day. I mean, the system makes sense if it's just one person calling plays and the coach gets to call audibles, but having a different person for different downs doesn't make as much sense. But hey, if it works for them

I don't see how this would work under live fire. It's like saying you are going to pinch hit for the first pitch, second pitch and third pitch. Good play callers get into a flow of the game and are setting up plays for later use sometimes 15 to 20 plays in advance. This would seem to be a choppy and disjointed way to orchestrate and offense.

You old!

Dupree was really good at OU. He (my memory) didn't take care of his body. And of course, didn't play baseball. I don't see him as great.

He's the person I reference to young athletes about their purpose and campus life. Don't let the cheers go to your head.

Its something very overblown.

Hugh Freeze calls all plays.

Derrick Nix the OC works on game planning for first down plays.

Kent Austin the QB Coach works on game planning for 3rd down plays.

Hugh will ask for their opinion on those things but Hugh is the one calling the play in to the QB.

It's a weird situation. If you haven't been tracking Aranda, ever since he became head coach he became very hands off to try and empower his subordinate coaches and it backfired hard. He only recently took over the Defense, so he's having to rebuild it. He doesn't quite have the dudes yet
BUATX2000
How long do you want to ignore this user?
The more I look at this matchup the more I don't like how it lines up for Baylor. There are too many WR / CB mismatches in favor of Auburn and any attempt to scheme against that is going to expose us to either a very mobile QB making plays with his legs or a heavy dose of a running game that is going to be death by body blows by the time we reach the 4th quarter.

The big "if" here will be the play of Baylors DL. If they can get pressure on the QB AND contain him when he tries to make plays with his legs, Baylor might be able to stop Auburn, but we will probably still need to score 35+ to have a shot at getting the W.
IowaBear
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Been saying this since their portal haul of WRs. Auburns clear advantage is their skill guys vs the Bears secondary. That matchup is incredibly concerning. BU has to get home on a regular basis without blitzing. The fronts on both sides will determine the outcome. Our OL needs to hold up well. Auburn has some pretty darn good corners. Need to give Sawyer time to pick the secondary apart.
It's time for Dave to earn his paycheck. He hasn't won a big game in years. He's got his chance in 11 days to get that signature win.

We have not been able to get sustained QB/backfield pressure from our DL since 2021. Would love to see that change this year.
IowaBear
How long do you want to ignore this user?
It has to change in order for the BU defense to not look horrific for long stretches. The safety play at BU has been G5 level for 2 plus years now. That's not likely to change this year with the guys who came back and weren't upgraded. QBs shred the secondary when given time. And it's typically safeties out of position or getting burnt in man. That's one position Dave has to get better players at,
Mr Tulip

Even the best secondary needs a pass rush. The longer the play goes on, the more the receivers gain the advantage. Eventually, someone will be open.

Cam Stewart lives in Boston and Toll lives somewhere like Indiana. They just take a single line of internet drivel and overblow it's relevance for 10 minutes of podcast. In reality, they have no idea what's happening with the team in Waco.

Agree the cb v wr matchup is a major problem. We had one of the worst secondaries in the country last year. Safeties were also terrible (probably worse) outside of Johnson (who I think moved over to corner).

Will need the dbs to be mediocre at the very least. Hard to pull off when we lost our most talented safety transfer to the knee, but you have to hope it can't get much worse.

LBs and D-line has to be really strong for this defense to significantly improve. Tbf there have been positive signs on that end. Think it's possible but Dave has to prove it.
