Have we heard anything from administration about classes being cancelled on that Friday for the Auburn game?

Why? It's a night game.

Typically game days have a day full of events. Especially big night games. Just was curious, I've heard different rumors going around.

Speaking as a former professor we have in the past not had classes canceled. However, we have had parking disrupted. I could not park in my usual place on the afternoon before a night game.

People go to class on Fridays? I didnt know that was a thing. If I was in school I'd be cracking beers out there by 9am.

Appreciate the reply. I feel like a lot of the student body would just skip anyway. Who knows

As someone who is currently paying Baylor to educate my child, I think that cancelling class because there is a nighttime football game on Friday is ridiculous.

I agree. The college experience is fine, but attending college isn't 100% about the college experience. I think it would set a bad precedent. If a student wants to skip classes and fail an assignment, that's on them

Cancelling classes is when you win a conference or national championship...

Or you're a bad team and beat someone you haven't in 30 years (Vanderbilt)

I highly doubt they cancel, as in 0.001% chance of it happening. I always arranged my schedule to make sure I was done Friday pretty early as did most of my friends. Class always ends. It's not work where something blows up Friday at 3pm when you're hoping to sneak out early for a happy hour and instead end up staring at a commuter screen until 9pm. If your final class ends at 3pm that's plenty of time to run over to the tailgates or whatever it is you and your buddies do before games.

Hey, I really don't care if they do or don't; i'm just saying that it's a little weird to cancel classes for a football game at a very expensive private university.

But maybe we are finally becoming a football school again like we were starting to trend 10 years ago. I find that a little hard to believe when we've kept a coach that hast lost multiple games to inferior teams, or in head scratching ways i.e. last second hail marys. Feels like mixed signals being sent.

No reason to cancel classes.

Education is the most important thing for any student on campus.

Email from LL said classes are not cancelled, but it implied that professors are free to develop alternate assignments and ways of meeting.

Right. Kinda hard to make it to the weekend when you can't sleep off Thursday night. Priorities.

I remember that I had a surly old prof during the first NCAA Tournament game in 20 years vs Purdue in 2008 and he basically said that no he wasn't going to cancel class and that he wasn't going to delay the quiz that was on the syllabus that day in order to stay on schedule. He then said that if he was in our shoes he would skip the class/quiz and live with the 2 point or so deduction on the final grade that a 0 on that quiz would result in. He said that we'd find that the rest of our lives would present us with similar choices and that chasing perfection was often the wrong one.


I was going to skip it anyway, but I thought that was a pretty straight answer from him.

Especially since the game is hours after the last class and the stadium is now on campus. No student should have trouble attending the game because of academics.

I do remember Baylor cancelled some classes when the President Reagan came to deliver a speech for the opening of the Ferrell Center in 1988.

I remember some Lefty professors were angry. I don't remember any students complaining.

We are not an institution of football.


Wasn't that the line the administration used a few years ago???

Not sure, main reason I was wondering is because they close campus parking the night before gamedays. Not sure if campus will have the infrastructure to close parking and host a full class day. Was thinking they might do a virtual class day.
