Can't say for sure, but it's up there. 1981 BU @ Arkansas.

Morton's hit on Sterling was the biggest I can remember. Think it got flagged for targeting but the hit clean was as can be.

It was glorious. After review he was allowed to continue. He wasn't that big but he was like a piece of iron. He had a good career in Canada football I believe.

ronnie lee's hit on the Arkansas kicker on the kickoff was a classic.
Another was Sepulveda's hit on the punt returner.

Ahmad Dixon, Sam Holl, Eddie Lackey, Clay Johnson come to mind as guys within the last decade who laid some pretty big hits

In the 1974 "Miracle on the Brazos" game, BU safety Ron Burns lit up UT quarterback Marty Akins on an option play that caused a fumble we recovered and if memory serves also knocked Akins unconscious. It was one of the hardest legal hits I've ever seen in a BU game (at least it was legal in 1974). I later read that Akins was so beaten up during that game that he had to be carried off the field at the end of it.

I had a racquetball class with Eddie Lackey and Levi Norwood. Not big guys at all. Lackey could not have been taller than a 5'9", maybe 5'10"

And I always felt kind of bad for Sam Holl. His girlfriend sat behind me in one of my classes, so I always heard about his concussion count. Think he had like four or five during his playing career

Yeah Norwood on Tv always looked tiny. He couldn't have been more than 185. Lackey definitely looked short but was absolutely shredded. Tough to hear about Holl I remember him missing time for 2 concussions. But 4-5!! We're talking permanent issues

Yeah IDK, I don't want to go telling tales but my eavesdropping led me to believe that he had had a handful

That is what I was expecting to see when I opened into the thread. Connor Martin right?

Back when the rule was so stupid -- pretty sure it only lasted that year in 2013.

For context, if a player was called for targeting, it was a 15-yard penalty and ejection. But if a targeting call was reversed, the player could still play but the 15-yard penalty remained.

It was a gross over-attempt to mitigate targeting and help prevent injuries...glad they changed course.

One week later against Tech Burns made what I thought was even harder hit on QB Don Roberts. I could hear it up in the stands and it knocked him cold for several minutes. That may have been the turning point of the game.

The things that always killed me about that play were:

1) it was a clean hit, so it should have ended the drive there. No penalty whatsoever.

2) Dixon took his helmet off afterwards and got another 15 yards tacked on. If the drive was over, like it should have been, he takes his helmet off and goes to the sideline anyway. No additional penalty.

3) Shepard controlled the ball, then was separated from it when he got lit up like a Christmas tree. It was a clear fumble with an immediate recovery by Dixon. Our ball at that spot, no penalties, no further need to even review the play.

Extreme gross negligence in officiating and a couple of stupid rules that compounded the situation.

Mike Welch had a massive hit on TCU receiver Stephen Shipley. Shipley said it was the hardest hit he'd ever received. He got a pretty bad concussion on that play.

Baylor Hit

LB Tommy Tubbs (?) goal line hit on Aggie RB (Rodney Thomas or Greg Hill perhaps) at Floyd Casey. No video found.

Ahmad Dixon hit on Boykins when he was a WR, at TCU. Patterson went crazy.;

Non-Baylor Hit
Quentin Coryatt (A&M stud LB) on TCU WR
