It signals to me they are not going to make a quick hire and they expect the new AD will not be able to start until after this coaching change season is over.

You may be right about that. The timing of the letter doesn't really make sense.

Perfect. I'll step in and get better seats!

Does anybody believe Linda made this decision? These decisions are made by the people who bankroll the coaches salaries. The BMDs made a reasoned decision that it's financially prohibitive to find and fund an AD and a new coaching staff. You take your time and get the right AD. You give him one season or less to evaluate Aranda. You tell Aranda to hire a top DC .

I wouldn't even trust Dave Aranda with Buddy Ryan as defensive coordinator. He needs to go.
This. Dave Aranda hasn't earned the right to overhaul the staff ... Yet a-****ing-gain.

His ass should have been fired two overhauls ago.

Bending over backward to make this an idiot-proof job doesn't charge the fact that you have an idiot in charge.

Of course he is staying. You don't rush to hire an AD and then immediately tell him/her they've got to fill their FB HC role in the worst market to be attracting a coach ever.

By this time next year, DA is either fired or a lame duck, and new AD has been working on a replacement for months. Far better scenario for the school to be in.

2026 gonna suck, but it was gonna suck regardless
with if the new AD could bring a coach with him. You just ****ed him. Now he knows his first year will be ****.
I came for the rumors, stayed for the overreactions.

I hate that this administration has made me resent Dave the way it has because he really is a good man. But that's what happens when it takes seven years to figure out that you've Peter principle'd a goof.

It's funny you mention Steele. That's exactly where Dave's program is headed. But pop the champagne bottle Party. Your boy Dave gets to come back another year and continue burying the program.

Continue burying? Let's face it, we are talking Baylor football. The winning and good seasons are the outliers, not the other way around. Dave has maintained the Baylor football tradition going back to the 50's. Even under Teaff, if we won the Conference or went to a major bowl is was a major surprise.

You guys keep acting like we are Penn State. Briles 3 year run was an anomaly that was accomplished with players that NO school could get through admissions.

Admire the desire for excellence, but to act like this season is some type of catastrophe upsetting a pristine University record, is ridiculous. This is normal and have been for quite some time. Why the surprise?

Kansas state used to be horrible. Even worse than Baylor historically.

Then they began to win on a regular basis. Won a few championships, constantly ranked, bowl games, a few major bowl games and the fan base expects to win now. Yes they still have an overall losing program record but in modern history (last 30-40 years) the program has changed.

Miami, Florida state, and others used to be bad.

Programs can change directions. It has happened for 100 years. Teams that used to be dominate got left behind in enrollment and have dropped below D1. Programs that used to have multiple heisman winners don't get top players/have dropped below D1. Or programs that used to be good haven't won in decades (Nebraska).

I can probably give a fairly accurate offseason synopsis.
1) Dave fires Powledge (Dave's 75th scapegoat)
2) Dave hires a 2nd rate DC and promises massive changes on the defensive side)
3) The portal haul will be filled with offensive talent
4) The portal haul will lack defensive talent (Dave's talent evaluation is Pop Warner level)
5) we start the season with an ass beating from a 1st year HC at Auburn

I don't really care at this point. Dave doesn't deserve another chance to prove he's not incompetent. He's on about his fourth already.

Dave has talent.
He just can't develop ****.
And his players lack good fundamentals and solid technique.

There's very little talent on the defensive side of the ball at Baylor.

The recruiting rankings disagree with you. By talent metrics this defense has no business being outside the top 50 let alone outside the top 100 as it currently is. Dave has done an awful job developing homegrown talent.
IowaBear
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Rankings mean nothing to me. Josh Allen was a 0 star recruit.
I've long said Dave doesn't develop. That's not new news. But this defense has very little talent. Their star rankings don't mean much imo

I agree. I'm past ready to move on...but we aren't. So I'd like to at least get someone in here that can do better than damn near last in the country.

Has that 'best ever recruiting class" signed yet? Is it possible that every other school will be telling our recruits that they are going to sign/play for a lame duck coach? Might that sway some recruits?

Wonderfu!!! So glad to see someone stand up to the football gripers! She made a smart decision. I am glad someone thinks beyond next week.Like I said, this foolish marygoround approach people keep pushing has proven to not be very productive. 2 for 21 got one coach a statue. Somehow one for 6 is not considered good especially with the gripers hurting the recruitment process. So "I repeat.WONDERFUL!!! I know my opinion does not count. But it should count as much as the gripers. It is all just opinion and thats about it.

I'm sorry, but 2 for 21 and 1 for 6?

It's also very clear that Baylor hasn't done any merry go round thinking or maybe we'd have let Dave go long ago and been better off at this point.

He's referring to the 2 conference championships Teaff won in 21 seasons and Aranda has 1 in 6.

I believe the decision should have been that once Baylor hires the AD, he will then review the entire football program and make decisions based on his research.

And it could very well end up being like that. And the part about keeping Aranda is only to keep the recruiting class committed to Baylor.

This main issue is the lack of an AD given that the AD should be able to select - with appropriate outside input - their guy. While there may be other variables at play, that is likely the main one.

You do realize that kids aren't going to A&M, Ohio State, to play for free?

Never were. Wish we'd get our crap together.

At least a handful of programs have made it less likely we have to watch Alabama/Georgia/Ohio State championship games on repeat.

Anyone can do this, it's the fairest CFB has been, maybe ever.

Here is the difference between hiring a professional that expects to win and knows what it look like and a Coordinator. This is James Franklin at Virgina Tech:

"Does it look, feel, smell and operate like a big-time program?" Franklin said, per ESPN's David Hale. "All those things need to be in place. ... I think the previous coaches here were in some challenging situations. That's the truth of it.
"There's some things that we're going to have to look at, and it's not just James Franklin. It's the marketing office, the ticketing office. Everybody's got to take some time and look in the mirror and say, 'Are we operating like a big-time program?'"

Baylor, even under Briles, NEVER met this standard. Some pieces were in place, but overall it ALWAYS feels, and felt under Briles, like we were piecing it together with duct tape. We were taking other programs cast offs, we were not able to recruit both sides of the ball, and even once we got top notch facilities that games STILL felt amateurish compared to B10 and Bluebloods.

Next AD HAS to fix this or it doesn't matter who they hire.
