That's our best possible outcome. NIL and Transfer Portal is killing college football as we know & love it.

I believe the Private School leadership across the country are sick of what college athletics is becoming and tired of operating in the red. Academics, with aggressive and sensible marketing, can capture a large portion of the 98.5% that won't ever make it into the NFL.

As a player I always felt superior to our conference state schools in both football talent and academics (except when we teed up Rice).

Baylor, TCU, SMU, Tulane, Duke, who else?

USC won't leave B10; Vandy is good at football now so they won't leave the SEC; Mi ami would get picked up by one of the big 2, Notre Dame stays Independent

Putting aside how impractical this is, BC, Syracuse, Rice, Liberty, Wake Forest, BYU, and Stanford are all out there.

As an aside, there is an interesting non-FBS conference called the UAA in D3 which has the most prestigious non-ivy private schools with WashU, Emory, Carnegie Mellon, and the like.

Gross, the games would be meaningless.

7 conference games and 2 or 3 non-conference games against SEC, Big 12, ACC & Big 10 teams and 2 or 3 games versus group of 5 teams.

How could the games be meaningless? The Big 12 is toothless now that UT and OU are in the SEC.

Big 12
Baylor Football is tied for 11th with Kansas.
Baylor men's Basketball is currently ranked 8th in the conference
Baylor women's basketball is currently ranked 6th in the conferene
Baylor women's soccer is currently ranked 5th in Big 12 play

Oops, I forgot we have an acrobatics & tumbling juggernaut.

That list will never get together on such an enterprise. They would not get anywhere near enough in revenue to cover expenses. USC, ND, Miami, Vandy, and Northwestern would have 0 interest in leaving their current setup. Even if you included BYU, the viewership left with the others would be and become even more pathetic.

You start with a faulty premise. The "private" schools are tired of the direction of college football. Then you create conferences that has ND right in the middle.

ND is overjoyed with how things are.

A private school league already exists.

It's called the Ivy League.

Notre Dame isn't joining a conference, and its certainly not joining a conference like that. With USC going to the Big 10 and its historical rivals (Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue, and Penn State) already in that league if the ACC blows up that is where it will go.

USC is already there.

Vandy has been winning in the SEC, beating much larger state schools even in an era of NIL.

Miami has five national championships.('83, '87, '89, '91, '01) Not joining either.

There are many private universities that expect more from their football programs than our not an institution of football.

I suspect you are correct here. Anyone who doesn't see the "clear and present danger" to the "Baylors" of college athletics are in need of clear lenses, or thinking unmuddled by introspective arrogance, or a new map of Egypt. Athletics, read "college football", is in a hostile takeover and schools like BU aren't at the table and may soon be out of the room altogether. Moreover, I don't think a long-term success record insures inclusion in the new order. There is a reason some schools are called "blue bloods", and that can apply to academics as well as athletics.

Creating a private university conference is getting run over…

Most private schools have small alumni bases, small stadiums, lower football revenue, and depend heavily on student fees or institutional support.

There is zero chance they could produce Power-conference media money, Power-conference stadium environments or Power-conference recruiting pull.

Without state-school fanbases, you'd get the AAC with a nicer brochure. No TV network is paying Power 5 money for Baylor vs Rice, Wake vs SMU, Duke vs Tulane, Northwestern vs Stanford.

Playing in a conference like this the games would be more meaningful than playing in Conference USA. Thats where this is headed.

The only way I see this even being an option is if the super conference that people have been predicting comes to fruition. If a 32 team super conference that only plays teams in the super conference becomes a reality, the private schools except for ND and USC will need to find a landing spot. The problem comes with revenue covering expenses. Unless a regional pod system is setup, the travel cost will be too great to make it realistic.

Would have been a dumb idea in the sport formerly known as amateur college football. But times change and we flat do not have the cash to keep up with those who do ... that is unless you happen to have a few mil a year you can put in the plate.

As they should be. They get to play a relatively weak Independent schedule every year, and will still get in the playoffs almost every year.

The Big XII is a good spot for Baylor right now. The future is always in doubt until you just give up. Then the future is certain.

Being in the Big 12 (which exists today) is not the problem. Not being in the SEC or BIG is and will continue to be the problem.

Get used to it. We are NEVER going to be invited into the SEC or Big 10. The Big 12 is weak. Uninspiring. Geographically ridiculous.

Oh, I totally agree with you. My point is our P4 conference will be no mas soon enough, so why not get a jump on trying something more realistic with actual student athletes who are part of the student body and have a bond with the school.
