Sigh. That's low key a great hire for them. In fact, I liked him just as much as Eric Morris if not more, and about as much as Golesh

I don't know about Morris after watching a bit of their game last night. Their defense looks as bad as Baylor's and the offense can't keep from shooting themselves in the foot.

It was one game - granted, the biggest game of the season for them - but still one game, and they're 11-2 even with the loss. The dude can coach and watch OSU blow by us starting next season.

Eric Morris also built the Incarnate Word program that GJ Kinne leveraged into an FBS head coaching job.

He's a really good coach. UNT just doesn't have the resources or the talent that the best programs in the American do, which is why they got manhandled by both South Florida and Tulane.

To me the slow pace indicates there really is zero chance of moving on from Aranda this off-season.

I think if there was a sense of urgency about that change we would be moving at a quicker pace to bring someone in.

We're definitely not making a change this offseason. But that's not because it was impossible to do so. It's because we slow play literally everything. Our university is always reactive and displays no sense of urgency whatsoever when it comes to assessing and addressing what should be viewed as pressing personnel matters.

No university that is serious about competing at a high level in football would keep Dave Aranda for a seventh season. And few would have used the logistical challenges of our AD situation as an excuse not to do what so clearly needed/needs to be done.

You may be completely right. I don't have the information to say you are or are not and am not going to speculate or create strawmen as many on this board do.

But a serious question......do you think money is currently available to buy out the current staff right now, pay the salary of a new coach and staff, possibly pay any buyouts needed to free the next coach from his current position and still have money left to pay players (NIL) including the now mandatory payments so a new guy would even have a chance to build a team?

From what I read and hear there is a better chance it is just not there. I don't think anyone at Pat Neff knows enough about the industry to hire a coach on their own. And I don't think it is that good of an idea to just gobble down whatever a head-hunter tells them.

The real concern in my mind is getting an AD that is worth his weight to be able to do so. If they don't find the right AD for this situation, we'll have bigger problems than just who is coaching the football team in 2026 OR 2027. I think it needs to be realized there is NO guarantee the new AD is going to fire DA. The only place that has stated DA will not be here in 2027 is this board and others like it. It hasn't come out of Pat Neff. They have just said the AD will make those calls.

I may personally know I need to do something, want to do something, and potentially will be worse off in the short term if I don't do something, but if I don't have the money to do so, I can't until time allows for some of that expense to be reduced or new sources of revenue found.

Lots of speculation here as to what are the reasons and motivations for what we are seeing.

The slow pace of the AD hiring process may indicate several "no's" from top targets. The best candidates want to be at a school that is committed to be the best. Baylor's commitment is questionable at best.

I didn't consider that factor…but you may be right. Especially if Linda is insisting to potential ADs that they hang onto Aranda.

If Linda is saying anything other than "you can fire Dave day 1" to potential AD hires then she's a ****ing clown.

That condition would absolutely be a deal-killer for any quality sitting AD. Maybe you could get a quality assistant AD or other exec to take a risk, but probably not.

It isn't a slow pace unless the plan is to promote in house.

there's just no shot that's the case. the reason CDA wasn't fired is so that the new AD can evaluate the program and make changes as he sees fit, that's been stated multiple times.

You can hire a coach this late that quickly?

With Baylor, everything is impossible.

I hope you're right… but the tone of Linda's letter did not seem to indicate that.

If that is the selection, I think Baylor is broke and this guy is cheap and has a history of Raising money at Baylor.

If the money is not available -- or can't be made available through fundraising efforts -- we're not serious about winning football.

A program that is serious about winning doesn't go to a seventh year with Aranda under any circumstances. The dude's expiration date is two years out of date already. To bring him back for another season is negligent.

Nope. Another case of Baylor thinking it's smarter than everyone else in an industry.

Every ****ing decision this university makes requires a stretch justification or excuses to rationalize.

EDIT: Sorry, I thought you were calling my reaction to the hire a troll job.

So as someone posted a while back… no one, real, whomever BU approached would accept the job.

Don't blame us because our administration makes ridiculous decisions.

There were good, easy decisions to be made. And we insisted on trying to outthink the room ... as usual.

With a few credible potential candidates that were out there and mentioned and BU rises with this. There is so much that is being stated about BU with this selection.

They are making the kinds of decisions y'all advocated by calling for quick rushed action. Let me just give you a warning now about any future coaching hires you call for. They will be horrendous. Just believe me and older guys this time.
