The thing is McGuire has had NIL the whole time he has been at Tech at levels about what we have now and last season. He has never had a team without it competing in a conference where everyone else was doing it. He didn't have the team worth 2.5 times what everyone else has in the XII until now. His teams were like our teams the past couple of years generally when his NIL was in par with everyone else in the XII.

Btw this new AD with all his business skills and connections touted better have us in the upper stratosphere of NIL in the XII by the Fall. If he doesn't I'm going to feel like he is a bust already. That is allegedly why he has been hired even though he has no experience as an AD at all let alone regarding NIL. If this guy delivers something like Cody Campbell money in donations for Aranda to work with, Great! But he better deliver.

Apples and oranges.

Joey wasn't all that impressive in Lubbock until Tech boosters started shelling out millions for players.

Without that, Joey is mid and would have been mid here too unless someone felt like throwing millions at 20 year

olds because they love throwing money away.

I've known Joey since he was at Cedar Hill as a 9th grade Coach.
Your description of him is 100% inaccurate.

Coach Goodner always told us "there's a reason you don't see any Jackasses busting out the gate at the Kentucky Derby"...you'd better have some horses in your stable...you can't coach 6'5, 4.5 in the 40, and a 40" Vertical.

With him and James Blanchard there is an argument to be had our team would have been much better. I guess we'll never know.

It'd still be mediocre here. McGwire turned out to be pretty mid as a head coach. It took buying a team to finally get him beyond an eight win season. He always was mostly a rah-rah guy.

That rah-rah guy ALWAYS pushed "TAKE3" for three takeaways each game. Today TTU had 4 in the championship game.

How did Baylor do with takeaways this year?

If Joey is a cheerleader, he's a damn hot one.

Perhaps read the part again where he only looks great now because the boosters got him the best players money could buy.

Wins everywhere he goes, Tech wasn't in very good shape when he got there. Won 23 games his first 3 years, that is pretty good. I believe he won 3 high school state championship. He is way better than what we have!!

Tech was loaded - roster wise - when he got there, and, in the context of that roster, he certainly underperformed in his first two seasons.

Pretty much sums it up. The fact that these posters think just anyone could have went 12-1 with that roster speaks for itself. ****ty ass Dave goes 8-4 with that 20 million dollar roster. Coaching matters. If anyone should know that it's BU fans. After all, for 6 years we've seen 1st hand what bad coaching looks like

"Loaded" with players who posted losing seasons in five of the six years before he got there ...

Of all the ridiculous narratives (mostly sad copes at this point) on this thread, this is the most ridiculous.

By this standard, we were way loaded this past season. How did that go for ol' Dave?

The word you're looking for is cope.

It's the word of the day around here for those who have been telling us for years that Aranda is a better coach than Joey McGuire for x, y and z reasons that no longer remotely apply anymore.

This is a fantastic analogy.

And it's pretty easy to see why those folks take the stance they have. Because it means they literally never have to give Joey McGure credit for anything. If he wins, it was the money/talent, and if he loses, it's, "See, I told you he sucks."

It's little more than a hedge to save one's dignity. Let them have this. It will be all they have when we're staring seven, eight and nine spots up the Big 12 standings at Tech for the next decade -- in the hole their beloved Dave Aranda put us.

It seems like a pretty simple assessment, get on the train CFP will continue to move in, or get left behind. TT and even BYU continue to trend upwards in this category and will continue to be in the race every year due to adapting for what it's going to take now.

Baylor doesn't, and hasn't, had $28M to put into buying the right players for Joey's program. TTU did, he recognized that, and that's why he will never be with Baylor Football again. He's better than Baylor......
