At this point I expect them to replace Nokes and Pow (as Safeties coach) but I think Dave stays as the acting/playcalling DC, or Paul Gonzales gets promoted.

But if we're hiring from outside and want to bring in a new guy for the DC role, in this weird year coming up...I'd go with Chris O'Leary if we can get him to come - young guy with a bright future, and his positional specialty is Safeties...

Well considering that could be 1/3 or more of all P4 HCs a candidate would work for even if they are in the play off right now…..who knows?

Right, atp every coach is on the hot seat. Like I think if UT isn't in the playoffs next year, Sark is gone. Even if they are 10-3.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's an internal move, especially if the powers agree that Dave's a short termer. Their not going to invest much on a sinking ship.

If Dave is still calling the defense does it really make that much difference ? A new DC would have to have the freedom to bring in their own system and call the defense during games to effect changes.

If we hire a new DC instead of just firing Aranda we are going to suck for a long time. No one should accept that as a decision to be made here.

A) We have way better access to talent than Buffalo does. B) He'd be the interim. Who cares if he wins?

He would only be in that position because we shat the bed to start the season, and if we continued losing under his watch, we'd just clean house and hire a new staff. Odds are strong we'd still do that even if he was successful as the interim.

He has been a position coach and HC at Buffalo his career. He is currently coDC at Bama th past couple of years. I'm not sure what that means though exactly. He may be a good DC. I don't see him being a good option at all as interim.

That decision has already been made. Barring scandal, there is 0.0 percent chance that Dave Aranda is fired before the start of the 2026 season.

Why are you guys acting like next year matters? It doesn't. We're almost certainly going to be somewhere between terrible and mediocre, and everyone associated with this coaching staff is going to be fired.

There are no stakes in a punted season, and that's what 2026 became the second it was announced that Aranda would be retained.

The decision hasn't been made until (1) we announce new staff and coordinators are being retained or (2) Dave is actually fired.

There are no stakes in 2026, there are no stakes in 2025, in 2024, in 2023. Clearly winning games and drawing a crowd aren't part of our measurement of success.

Tell me, when do these games matter?
