Reading between the lines back when we made the AD hire, the AD hire was practically Drew's call. Drew was pushing for this unconventional pick. Apparently they may be friends. So I suspect Drew is here as long as we wants regardless of results barring beginning to turn in the neighborhood of 5 win seasons or so.

But as to the title of the thread, I thought both marketing campaigns had been abandoned. At least the person over player one it appears has been.

I don't want to keep any coach who isn't winning at - consistent level in the big 12, including Drew if we keep trending in the wrong direction.

When you are getting paid millions to underachieve. It could be a thousand times a day. Maybe more.

Scott Drew took our program from the septic tank of Hell to the National Championship. I say he can stay!

I am sure there are quite a few major programs that will hire him should he have a couple of bad seasons. There is no doubt in my mind we will fire him. We are Baylor. That's just how we roll.

Drew can stay forever. And ever. And his kids can all coach too.

Drew should be able to coach here as long as he wants. It's not his fault what happened to the roster

Before the portal and NIL [ pay to play ] kids gravitated towards coaches that had shown the ability to improve their skills and give them the best chance to get to the professional leagues. Now all that matters is the size of the check. Drew has not forgotten how to coach, it is the players that are different. Same thing on football, Saban showed

I don't think the mindset of "it's a forgone conclusion that we can't do better than Drew, so if we suck, that's cool" is really properly addressing the issues at hand, or being completely honest. But I know I'm in the minority on this. Change is painful, and expectations for winning don't exist in the Baylor of 2026

There are players from teams around the country thanking God at the end of games all the time, but their teams and Universities don't hit you over the head with it. Jesus doesn't pick teams to support. When Baylor loses does that mean they didn't put Jesus first in that game?

All I know is that neither our football team nor our basketball team is fun to watch, and it has become difficult to make yourself go to the games even if you live in Waco, as evidenced by all of the empty seats in McLane and in Foster.

Dave is just simply not a very good head coach. He does not have the skill set.

Drew is a little more puzzling. He won a national championship with a bunch of older, seasoned players, but since then he stocks up on guys that will only be here one or two years. And now we stink. Part of that is the nature of the new environment, but part of that is simply Drew not having the intestinal fortitude to stick with what really worked in the face of his ability to attract some high flying one and done type guys.

The question I keep asking myself is, "Is it the coaching or the athletic environment that keeps us stumbling?"

I am more sold on CDS than CDA right now. My personal belief is that Baylor cannot compete year after year with the big boys. This has always been true, but is especially true now with pay for play. We have the money to bring in good players, but not top players. So unless we have a coach that is special and beyond remarkable in his abilities, we cannot expect to perform consistently above the middle of the pack line.

CDS may be one of those coaches, but he has to deal with the fact that at any given time, it only takes 1-2 players to leave or get injured and the season is essentially over. They will frequently get into the NCAA bracket somewhere, but will rarely make to the Elite 8 or even the Sweet 16.

CDA is not one of those coaches. But if he were, he would need to find a way to keep players. Even if we were to make it to the playoffs, that would be a problem. If we don't make it to the playoffs, then it is a certainty. Our Bears should make a bowl game almost every year, but very rarely make the playoffs.

My conclusion is that the realities of Baylor's size and financial status prevent us from being a lot better than what we are. Getting a better football coach is certainly possible, but there are not enough Cignetti's in this world to get us over the top. I don't think we can bring in a better basketball coach (it is scary what CDS could do at a blue blood school).
