WACO, Texas — The Baylor Men’s Basketball (11-7, 1-5 Big 12) got boat-raced yet again in a home conference game, this time by the No. 12 Texas Tech Red Raiders (15-4, 5-1 Big 12) with a score of 92-73.
This is the Bears' fourth conference loss by double-digits this season and their third Big 12 loss by at least 18 points.
Grant McCasland’s Raiders put on a sharp shooting display in the first half, going 14-19 from deep, as they built a 55-36 halftime lead.
Guard Christian Anderson led the way for Tech with 26 points on the night, including an 8-10 performance from downtown.
JT Toppin dominated in the second half, scoring 13 of his 22 points during that period.
Donovan Atwell was not far behind, with 21 points of his own while shooting 7-10 from deep.
For the Bears, Cameron Carr registered 18 points and nine rebounds while Dan Skillings and Isaac Williams went for 12 and 11 points, respectively. James Nnaji played two minutes and did not register any stats besides one steal.
As far as the flow of the game was concerned, Texas Tech made four triples before the first media timeout and did not slow down. Two more immediately after that break created a 20-10 lead that would dip back into the single digits just once for the rest of the game.
So, as for the flow of the game: there was no flow. Tech was a tidal wave that crashed into the Bears.
The Red Raiders shot 60% from the field for the game and 63% from three by the final horn. Such great shooting was the product of many clean shot opportunities early that created huge confidence for the visitors.
The Bears meanwhile, struggled for good looks at the bucket and finished with a solid 49% percent shooting from the field and a 7-21 mark from three.
Free throws were not easy for Baylor on the night, with the home team missing 10-20 from the charity stripe.
Baylor now has to regroup as winter weather is set to roll into Waco later this week when TCU comes to town. The Horned Frogs are looking to sweep the season series with the Bears for the first time since 2018.
That game is set for Saturday at 5 p.m. at Foster Pavilion. The broadcast will be available on ESPN2.
