Indiana transfer defensive lineman Hosea Wheeler has signed with Baylor.

The 6-foot-3, 300-pounder posted 31 tackles, four for loss, 11 quarterback pressures and two fumble recoveries as he played 420 snaps for the Hoosiers National Championship team.

According to Pro Football Focus, he posted a defensive grade of 70.6 with a run defense grade of 74.0 and a pass rush grade of 60.2. He primarily played nose tackle and defensive tackle for the Hoosiers.

Wheeler was a two-time all-conference player during his final two seasons at Western Kentucky before leaving for Bloomington. He posted 117 tackles, eight for loss, four sack and two forced fumbles.

He is awaiting the ruling on Diego Pavia’s lawsuit challenging the NCAA rules that JUCO years count towards a player's five-year eligibility since he played his freshman season at Sacramento City College.

If that passes, he will have one year of eligibility remaining.

Still waiting on a ruling from the judge in the Diego Pavia case?

It appears the arguments were made on Feb 10th

AI says we are still waiting.

  • Case Status: While the immediate, temporary injunction allowing Pavia to play in 2025 was upheld, the overarching lawsuit aiming for a permanent change to junior college (JUCO) eligibility rules is still ongoing.

Is Hosea Wheeler able to practice with the team during the spring given that the court case is still pending?

I think Klanderman has made mention in interviews this Spring of how athletic and how good of football player he is implying that he has been practicing.

I remember him well also. Injuries limited his effectiveness in his last couple of seasons, but prior to then he was a monster in the DLine.

He commanded his full name "Gary Don Johnson", along with a "yessir" or "nosir" in friendly conversation. He was "Da Man"
