Look, I can tell we've hit rock bottom from a fan perspective if the fist article I see in the football forum is asking when the Lagway family would pull DJ. In fact every time I'm on the football forum all I see is people moaning and groaning about how bad we're going to be and that Aranda needs to cease to exist or whatnot. So let's try something different for a change, what is one thing y'all can be excited about this season for Baylor football? And I'd prefer if it's not "I'm excited for when Aranda gets fired week 6" or any other sarcastic gripes about our team. Show some pride!

I know all the negativity kind of sucks...but Aranda has got us here. It's up to him to show us some signs for real optimism.

Watching Lagway is one of the few things that I have some interest in. It's hard to find much else to be hopeful about.

I was 100% bought in last season in August and was in here saying we would have 9 or more wins. I don't typically skew negative...but Dave has got me there.

It's a new season, new players, particularly a new qb that we will find out a lot more about,

New DC with complete control, I doubt that will be for the worse.

Nobody knows how it's going to turn out, but there is a solid chance it could be less disappointing than the last couple of years.

I'm just waiting to see how it pans out.

Put it on paper.

Hey everyone look it's the guy who can't read the post that said "say something positive"

It's people like you that I can't stand on this forum cuz you never have anything nice to say, and even if there isn't a lot to be positive about, don't show up on my post that is asking about what people are excited about for the season and asking that those people don't say anything negative and start trashing on the people that have hope. Just because you don't have any happiness in your life doesn't mean you have to be a piece of shot to others

I'm confused about what you were expecting. "Hey guys, I don't like negativity, can somebody whisper sweet nothins in my ear about the state of the program?" Ok you start - what are the specifics about the program that you love?

I'll take honest pessimism over contrived positivity any day

Lagway has the potential to be a play making difference maker with both his arm and his legs - and right now that's about the most positive thing I can say. Of course as the saying goes, "potential is somebody that hasn't done it yet" so we'll see. Beyond that there are at best too many question marks on both sides of the ball and the fact remains that our HC has only had 2 winning seasons (counting bowl games) in the 6 years he's been in the position - so all in all it's hard to feel much genuine positivity. Hoping to be surprised and happy to be the first in line to eat crow if I'm wrong, but I don't foresee a winning season or really even a .500 season as things stand.

Ok first let me preface that I was not around for pre Art Briles, and have lived most of my life with Baylor football being somewhat competent.

Second, I was expecting to see people who honestly liked the moves we made in the offseason that would make them excited to see this season, but apparently that's rarer than our defense making a third down stop last year.

Point is, it pisses me off when people that claim to support the program hate every move the team makes to improve our situation. Believe it or not, I don't love every move the staff makes either, like Aranda continuing to run the defense last year, but you didn't see me rushing to the forums to start whining about it.

And to answer you other question, I liked a lot of the moves we made this year. For starters, I liked the Lagway pickup, we needed a QB to fill the hole Robertson left, and I'm glad we didn't choose a mid G6 QB or promoted Nate Bennett. I feel like under Spavital, Lagway can make large bounds in his development that could make our offense a threat. Speaking of the offense, I liked those portal moves too. Our receivers room is much less of a question mark now thanks to who we picked up, and having Pendergrass and Knighten in the backfield should give us a somewhat respectable run game. On the other side of the field, I liked the Klanderman hire. Letting Aranda focus on his job alone instead of head coach and DC will be better for us this season, and Klanderman should be running a more aggressive defense than last year, which should help the offense not have to get us out of a hole. The defensive portal players look good too, we'll have Barnes, Ponder, and hopefully Wheeler making mobile quarterbacks less of a threat and bringing up a higher TFL or sack total this year. In the secondary, we now have player with FBS experience playing, which will opponents passing games less effective, forcing them to run it into our improved D-line. Back to the offense, our O-line got overpowered almost every game, and then got picked apart by the portal, but our returning players mixed with the transfers should be able to protect Lagway and the run game more effectively than last year.

All in all, I liked all of the players we got through the portal, and even if some of the picks were questionable, the staff obviously saw something on the film that said those players would work in our system. So in conclusion I liked a lot of our offseason changes and portal class, and I can see massive improvement to both sides of the ball. Does that mean I think we're going 11-1 and winning the Big 12? No, but I have HOPE that what I've seen will come to reality, and hope seems to be something none of yall have.

An already depleted O line, that is now even more depleted, I'm trying hard to find something to cling to other than Lagway. Dawson coming back gives me hope. A new DC can't take us any further down in defensive production than where CDA drug us. Oh, those Bear Claws at McLane have my attention.

That guys an idiot. Don't let him, in any way, be the voice of where the fan base is. He thinks Aranda was only hired because of his skin color.

Truth is, Lagway is a fantastic person even if his football career falls short. And he's been ours since he's been. It's an exciting time for the program. It will energize many of us who watched his dad play.

Well for the record, I have never, ever hated every move that our program made, and I've always given credit where credit is due when we bring in a good transfer, when Dave wins a game, or when something else positive happens. The flipside of that coin is that I give honest critique when Baylor loses, or when we bring in obvious warm bodies in the portal (and there was still a lot of that this year)

The problem is, this is not your dad's NCAA. All of these guys are making big-time money. More than a lot of people on this board make. So yes, if you are going to take a paycheck from my alma mater and then stink at the job you're being paid for, I'm gonna call you out. If you want to try to police positivity or make personal attacks or whatever, go right ahead, but I'm not going to be dishonest just to cheer someone up.

A positive take?

Well, let's see.

2026 places us one year closer to the end of the world and Aranda's last season.

That would be a silver lining.

Ok, never in my life did I think I would be called delusional for wanting the team I root for to win. I made this post almost as a cry for help, just trying to see if there was anyone who was excited for the season, or if everyone had resigned to thinking that we are going to be awful, there is no chance we can be good. And I did find a solid 3 people that had the same viewpoint as me, but the vast majority of the responses to this post that was asking if anyone was hyped for the season said "No, I can't wait for our coach to get fired and there is nothing else to be happy about for this season." And from my perspective, when I tried to argue that we could be good, I get called stupid or insane. Baylor is not a school I cheer for neutrally, this is the university I've watched my entire life, and it seems I share that in common with most of yall, but yall are unable to hope for a good season, and that's what separates us. I'm fully aware that Baylor has not been good recently, but I try to see on the bright side of our situation at all times. Because of Mack's stupidity, Aranda has one year to turn this ship around, and don't get me wrong, I don't think Aranda is a good HC, but I also don't think he has no way to make a good season happen. If he has a losing season, then he deserves to be fired, but if not, then good for him, he gets another year.

Point is, call me delusional but while you guys whine and complain over what Aranda is doing to keep his job, I'm going to be rooting for the Bears the entire season. Sic 'Em.

"What is one thing y'all can be excited about this season for Baylor football? "

I don't know if excited is the right word, but I am interested to see what coach Spavital does with DJ Lagaway and if the offense can produce enough points and the new DC Klanderman's defense can hold opponent's point production low enough to get to 7 Wins.

I would lean toward taking the under if I was a betting man on 6.5 wins this season but would love to see the Bears prove me wrong.

Regardless of how the season goes, I think Aranda will return. That's just my opinion based on last year's comments from Baylor's president, BMDs, and others. It seems they believe the available money is better spent on players than on coaching contract buyouts. I could be wrong, but that's my take.

Seems like Dave Aranda manages to pull at least one insane win out of his ass every year.

2025- SMU and Kstate comebacks
2024- Tech and TCU
2023- UCF comeback
2022- OU (in Norman)
2021- Big12 Championship
2020- Kstate

So I'm excited for whatever that game will be this year.
