Starr got himself fired over the Fed required "misreporting" of sexual assault claims at BU over several years. The fact that some "powers that be" wanted him gone needed this event should not be forgotten. That no one else who was as deeply responsible for this got fired is telling to anyone paying close attention during those years.

McCaw resigned, surprisingly with little sticking to him personally.

Briles got fired largely due to his response to the revelations and comments from investigators who understood nada about college football, and maybe all college athletics. Tightly run program in terms of work ethic and execution? Yep. Loosely run program terms of both on-field and off-field actions? No doubt; well-recognized. I suspect Briles had no idea the serious nature of the environment at the time, and while he had dealt with the one player guilty of rape, he didn't manage other questionable folks well enough to offset public scrutiny and the leverage used against him. Not much can be done to a student's "activity" on their own time but you can establish the accepted culture for the team, with the appropriate "solutions" to "encourage" accepted norms. And you can establish said program even when your university ignores theirs and your AD doesn't have one in place.

Failure at every level in this unnecessary tragedy cannot be ignored nor discounted. Even in the face of quilt, most of this could have been avoided if Starr et al had taken the fall by bearing responsibility for its deceit, and Briles going repentant and saying less. I suspect both parties had some poorly-informed and unwise advice. Im not saying Briles should have kept his job at BU, but it was totally unnecessary to destroy his career based on the actions of one athlete and his own apparent naivet regarding the situation. This could have all been redeemed but at high cost to street credit within the academy; I suspect BU was unwilling to pay that particular cost. In the end, a football coach paid more heavily than the institution for the mismanagement of said university and its administration.

And all had skin in this guilt game. And everyone is punished. But only one permanently.

That wouldn't go the way you think it would.

Ian resigned, wasn't fired.

But anyway, why did CAB get paid $17 million if he was guilty of anything?

Good effort here little buddy.

Thee is right, some of you girls will never see the light. I'm sure that demotion Ian took was his first choice, lol.

SEC teams refused to interview him. He wasn't even allowed on the sideline at a university that has more NCAA violations than all but a few. It doesn't matter how many games you win. Get your boss fired and there isn't an AD on earth that would risk their career to hire you. Why would they?

You don't have to like Baylor, support the board, or even dislike Briles, the fact is, universities ignored him for a decade. That's a fact.

I think every university has similar problems and I'd bet the attorneys would say the same thing.

But whether it's the Salvation Army or a Fortune 500 company, if you're the highest paid employee, the expectations change.

However you cut it up or where you stand it was a devastating dark time in Baylor's history which, as multiple threads have shown, pain and scars are still there. Probably won't die off until age catches most of us.
Regardless of Aranda's ONE year of success in which he had a chance to recruit to an unfolding time of opportunity, he just literally bombed. His coaching, recruiting and evaluation expertise proved there really was none. NIL, SEC & B10 have dealt apathy to those that could make a difference. I just think we are where we are going to be. Conjuring up a stretch we had is nearly impossible today and I really don't think the interest is there.

It wasn't just Baylor that was unwilling to pay the cost. I suspect the board members, aware of their own potential liability in overseeing all of this, were also doing whatever they could to deflect and save themselves. I believe we were a textbook example of how situations like this should not be handled.

And there is the matter of taking care of his coaches. Briles pocketed $17 million. The assistants got pink slips. Ask them how they felt about that.

You are dumb as hell. Briles took the fall for everyone, ruined his career, and they all went on to keep coaching, including high profile positions at major programs.

Yes. Ask them how they feel about it. You clearly have no idea.

Briles was certainly the worst off when it was all said and done. Not a single team would touch him with a 10-foot pole.

Guys like Lebby, Kendal, McCaw, all found other jobs.

Even Ken Starr found a job working for Trump.

What was happening at Baylor under Briles was chump change compared to what was happening at other schools. Don't believe me? Take the time to look it up. Google is your friend. Free up your closed mind. It will do you good.

Was Briles clean as the driven snow? No. Neither was……..fill in the blank. It was called big time college football then, and pretty much now.

The difference? A bunch of so called religious administrators and regents who were shaking in their Coke Hans, worried about their careers.

What would Alabama, Ohio State, et al, have done?

You all know. You just don't want to admit it. Briles would have stayed at Baylor until someone else offered enough to hire him away.

Took the fall for a bunch of holier than thou administrators and regents who refused to bring Baylor into the 21st century and who were fearful for their reputations and careers.

That genius text a Baylor coach sent about 'white women loving football players,' didn't go down too well as a recruiting tactic. In fact, that ended any interest one school had in said coach. Others appear to have felt the same. Sure, there are hypocrites, but he went unemployed for ten years, so they didn't like something.

You might be able to say he 'took the blame,' but that's because the media assigned it.
I agree with giving young folks a second chance. But that still means he owned the responsibility.

Interestingtly, I don't hear any of you sticking your neck out for Ian. You can't have it both ways, you can't say Art was innocent and Ian guilty. Or vice versa. According to you guys, Ian kept Art happy. And that was his job.

Go build your own Art Briles Hero Worship Board. Seriously.

What do you not understand about this being a BAYLOR BULLETIN BOARD???

You hangers-on are so few and frankly so pitiful I'm surprised you are still posting on Sic'em. Good Lord men, pull yourselves up out of the 10 year sludge and reclaim a life. Imagine how popular you could be by building a Greyhound Sports Board!

Sic 'em has been up and providing Baylor Fans and Baylor Backers great service for years. Now we are going to be inundated with worthless Division 2 BS nobody truly gives a _____ about but makes a few hero worshippers feel good about themselves and allows them more space to remind us how Baylor ruined a good man's coaching career.

Every time Baylor wins you guys will attack. Ever time Baylor loses you will celebrate. If ENM loses it will surely be open season on Baylor for letting Briles go. If ENM keeps winning we will be inundated with calls to let them into the college football playoffs.

I'm ignoring it all. No matter how many points per possession ENM achieves. Go tell it to the nut jobs living out towards Roswell. They might appreciate it.

Just keep it off the sports board that Baylor built.

A football forum has different threads. Baylor always follows former coaches and players after they leave Baylor. I'm sure you understand that. Especially one who has been blamed for everything.
I agree totally with Thee about a different league for schools who don't want to/can't pay whats required now. Us Boomers will never be comfortable with NiL.
