Baylor football unveiled a new throwback uniform on Thursday, paying homage to the look the Bears sported during the late 1980s to early 1990s. The retro combination will be worn for the Big 12 opener against Colorado on Saturday, Sept. 26, at McLane Stadium.

The throwback features a gold-chrome helmet, green jerseys with a bear claw on the shoulder pads, and white pants, recreating one of the program’s most recognizable looks from its final years in the Southwest Conference and its early seasons in the Big 12.

Baylor had one of the most iconic uniform wardrobes in the country from the early 2010s through 2019. In recent years, the Bears have slowly but surely started bringing back fan favorites, albeit with a slight modern twist.

In 2024, Baylor debuted anthracite jerseys and helmets, and last year, the Bears added a gold-chrome helmet back into the rotation. That trend continues in 2026 with the return of the throwback uniforms.

Very nice! These are the school colors. Not the current version that was forced upon us by the lady from TCU.

I think that Reedy era uni would be a cool uni to add to the rotation as well except with a chrome version of that helmet Watson was wearing. I also think the latter Teaff era uni showed just above with the gold chrome helmet unveiled yesterday would also be cool to add to the rotation. The yellow helmet just needs to be put in the warehouse forever if they haven't recently decided to do this. The green helmets need to be converted to green chrome helmets.

that's completely false actually. Jovan had very little to do with the United campagin in 2019.

This has been explained a thousand times. And our school colors didnt change in 2019. We have always worn the same shade of gold we do now. These throw backs even feature it just like the unis in the 80s that insoired these did. Vegas gold and old gold have never been our school color gold shade. Hence why all our other sports have worn all gold unis for decades

I understand that you consider yourself the all knowing Baylor superfan. But just stop with these current ugly colors. It is a fact that Jovan drove the decision to our current colors. It is a fact that she's from TCU. And in my opinion it is a fact that our older color schemes are much better than the mustard unis now. I will wave my green & gold and not your green & mustard.

the only fact u stated is she is a tcu alum. Nike uses templates and we were forced to do nike for all sports or go to russel. Under armor dropped multiple baylor sports after thr scandal and addidas wouldnt take us. Nike would only take us if we gave all sports, which in and of itself is smart for both parties and most do this, & thus we fell under their current template being used for u information designs which was very simple designs.

But another fact is that Jovan was the primary driving force behind this throwback uni being made fyi.

As for our colors, do you simply ignore history? Our endzones have always been our current gold. Our BU logos have been too. 99% of our branding has always been this gold. Our unis in the 70s and 80s that literally were copied to make this throwback show it. Vegas gold and old goldd helmets, outside of a very few seasons were wbb, mbb, and sball wore vegas gold unis, are essentially the only example of it being used by baylor other. Our mbb rocked university in the 2010 and 2012 e8 runs. They had all gold unis decades ago. Baseball has rocked it dor decades. Track too. Soccer and tennis. Ect ect. Football rocked it as a helmet stripe for a year or 2 in the 60s even.

Our actual school colors didnt change in 2019. Otherwise all of the baylor branding and tens of thousands of apparel designs for the past 70+ years wouldn't have also featured university gold shades. All of my memrbilia wouldn't showcase it. Ect.

You can argue abiut wether or not old gold/vegas gold should be the primary baylor football helmet or not. But stating that our official school colors arent what they actually always have been, a dandelion which inspired our gold sure aint khaki, has not changed. Theres some more facts for you.

That's what I assumed. Isn't it amazing that the incentive 40 years ago was a sticker on your helmet, and now it's a $20,000 check for every game you play

These uniforms are perfect in every way. They need to be made our permanent, forever uniforms with alternatives off them.

These are uniquely Baylor and uniquely college football.

This is simplicity done extremely well ... not our minimalist Rhule-era middle school uniforms.

The "Lady from TCU" led the team that came up with this design.

Jovan Overshown was only following the directives of her boss(es) ... both then and now.

The difference is her current boss actually cares about Baylor University and its traditions.

Doug McNamee will have prove his value as a fundraiser and coach-hirer, but I've done a complete 180 on him since his hire. He's made a believer out of me.

Nobody really cares what Pantone codes our school uses for branding.

Baylor football has used actual gold for most of its history -- and exclusively once it became possible to put a good looking shade on pants and jerseys.

Anyone above the age of 8 grew up watching Baylor football in gold. That's how they remember it and that's how they like it. Fortunately Doug McNamee is one of those people, so I think we have a good shot of returning to what the vast majority fans want and enjoy.

I'll settle ... as they did during the Singletary era ... with gold helmets and yellow elsewhere ... as is used on these throwbacks. Give me these uniforms forever, and I'll be a happy Baylor Bear.

I don't know about most fans, but most real fans insist that their team be the one other schools least want to schedule on their homecomings.

This goes without saying. But it's not a problem that can be solved with uniform designs.

That doesn't mean we shouldn't strive for uniforms that better represent Baylor University and its program history/tradition.

These throwbacks do that extremely well -- much, much better than the last two Nike redesigns.

Look ... we're not going to fix Baylor football in a uniform thread.

I don't know what point you're trying to make or what it is your trying to accomplish. We're just talking about uniforms in a thread about uniforms.
