Keys for Baylor

  1. Get Lagway going early. He is 0-1 as a Bear and has not played since Auburn. Colorado’s pass defense is suspect.
  2. Stop the Go-Go run game. CU’s strength is the ground attack and four backs averaging 5+ YPC. Brennan Marion needs a big game as OC.
  3. Win the red zone. Colorado is last in the Big 12 in red-zone trips and has allowed seven RZ TDs. Baylor hasn’t finished better than 12th in red-zone offense scoring percentage dating back to 2023 and ranks 13th currently. 
  4. Apply pressure for 60 minutes. Aranda expects CU’s best shot after Northwestern. Baylor can’t have a Louisiana Tech type of fourth quarter.
  5. Protect the ball. Don’t give Colorado life with turnovers. Baylor hasn’t done a good job of that this season.

Everything about our defensive resume to date is positive.

I would like to see more consistency in the D. They e gone plenty of good or great things in 4 games but they have had too many mistakes and given up too many yards & points, especially vs the cupcakes.


You know there is another team out there trying to score. COL is not a cupcake. Bit disorganized and coaches rely too much on athleticism to win matchups (I think because Deon was a freak and was able to do it, so he thinks that is how it should be done. Very Florida attitude.) but they have talent.

BU D is good. Offense is issue. We have power run game, no one is taking it to the house. If QB gets inaccurate, we get behind the chains quickly. O bogs down. No D can play 81 snaps perfect. Listen on radio, Pendergrass busts a 16 yard run and they act like it is Eric Dickerson.

16 yards gets us excited that says it all.

No, I realize there is another team that are trying to make good plays too. That sometimes, how we respond to that and pull out a win is more important than the details of whether every play occurs like we think it should.

Not every call works, how we respond is more important because unless we are playing cupcakes, we ae going to be responding.

Many on here seem to think that it is of more value that everything goes like you want and the coaches do what you want. That there is a "right" call and a "wrong" call.

To each their own. Enjoy the game your way... No issues.

The problem on this site is very few of us are critiquing specific aspects of games and the team. Many, if not most, just take a blanket "Dave Aranda sucks" stance reflexively.

Even if that's been true generally, it's not a particularly productive or enjoyable way to follow a season that has to this point met most reasonable expectations.

I'm just of the mind that there will be plenty of time for negativity if/when that stops being the case. There's no need to expedite the process.

There are no sunshine pumpers on this side of the site in 2026, and the fact that you think there are shows how far you've swung to the doomers side of the aisle.

The most optimistic fans on this board are simply saying, "Maybe we should wait and see how this team plays the next four or five games before drawing firm conclusions" and hoping for an 8-4 season. And they're getting shouted down constantly by posters who want everyone to be as miserable as they are.

There is no one here I'm aware of who is still staunchly or unconditionally supporting Dave Aranda. Pretty much everyone is saying he has to reach certain performance goals (most of them reasonably high) to earn another season in Waco. The need some feel to jump on even the slightest praise for this team or coaching staff is not only annoying, it runs people off and shuts down discussion.

There are no sunshine pumpers on this side of the site in 2026, and the fact that you think there are shows how far you've swung to the doomers side of the aisle.

The most optimistic fans on this board are simply saying, "Maybe we should wait and see how this team plays the next four or five games before drawing firm conclusions" and hoping for an 8-4 season. And they're getting shouted down constantly my posters who want everyone to be as miserable as they are.

There is no one here I'm aware of who is still staunchly or unconditionally supporting Dave Aranda. Pretty much everyone is saying he has to reach certain performance goals (most of them reasonably high) to earn another season in Waco. The need some feel to jump on even the slightest praise for this team or coaching staff is not only annoying, it runs people off and shuts down discussion.

Well said. Coaches come and go, but fan base reputations stay for a long time. No one wants to come someplace where no matter how they do, it is not enough.

If you want a good coach, that coach has options. They also have agents that are paid to monitor this stuff. It is more than offering a number. Any Coach worth hiring wants to see affiliation with the Big 4, commitment by the University to get them what they need, recruiting base, a developed booster program, and a fan base that shows up TO SUPPORT. Baylor has enough to overcome, why give them more?

No one is saying to blow sunshine, but geez call it like it is. The team has played well so far. The BU/Auburn game is a candidate for game of the year so far. Empty stadiums, fans that nit pick and boosters that can't be re-won over is not an attractive location.

You make a very good point, but after 7 years, there is such a deep level of Aranda fatigue, from the way he thinks and speaks, to his .500 record, to his game decisions , that so many people almost just want him gone regardless of Baylor's record. Not saying that's good, but it's true.
