Seriously now…

Rhett Lashlee of SMU, currently ranked AP #23, or Jake Dickert at Wake Forest, currently ranked AP #17. Both know that they will end up in a lesser ACC leftover conference after 2030 realignments are announced in 2027/28. So this will be an opportunity to get out before the ACC drops in status along with their funding resources.

Just being ranked is a rather low bar.

I know of Lashlee, but is he a good coach or are they just buying players? I don't know much about Dickert.

Has either won a conference title? Are their teams consistently good?

Lashlee is a great coach and a great culture fit. We should 100% hire him if he would come, but I don't he will unless he decides he wants to build something at a true Christian university,.

Some people have argued that Baylor has become woke and is no longer a "true" Christian university. Obviously, that's very debatable.

It's not at all debatable. Livingston is a far-left Marxist loon and Baylor is most definitely "woke". We're barely more Christian than TCU at this point.

You really shouldn't use words you don't know the meaning of. It makes you look stupid.

F*** you. You're one of the resident far-left loons on this board as it is, so of course you would defend Livingston.

ROFLMAO the User Name definitely checks out.

There are no Marxists or Communists in the United States in anything close to statistically significant numbers. LIvingston is not anywhere close to a Marxist. You in fact are much closer to a Fascist than she is to a Marxist. Again. try and learn some basic definitions before making yourself look like a ****ing moron, and maybe keep your political bull**** off the football board ass wipe.

Would love Dickert but we aren't getting him from Wake. If/when he leaves it will be for a Big 10 school. He and his whole family are from Wisconsin so he's the obvious choice if they decided to move on from Fickell. Wisconsin actually playing well right now and beating USC last night may keep Fickell around a little longer though.

Maybe we should look at this guy- Joel Gordon- currently the OC at Auburn. He was QB coach at Iowa State when Brook Purdy was there.

What do we know about Eck? I'm too lazy to look it up

He's a great coach, but he comes out of the Big Ten tree and is likely destined to return there.

I think we need a paradigm shift where we start accepting that we may be a steppingstone to the Big Ten and SEC. We simply cannot compete with them financially. I think a head coach with a little ambition is generally a good thing.

I don't think there will be any stepping stone with Eck. That's my point. He'll go straight from New Mexico to the Big Ten IMO like Cignetti and Chesney did.

Cignetti was on 2009 Bama staff under Saban.

Correct. Before Cody Campbell and friends, back when their talent was similar to ours, I recall Dave going into Texas Tech and beating them pretty badly. If Dave beats you badly, you did something really wrong. That's all I'm saying

Joey ain't the one sorry. Every bit of that team down to the rankings was bought by their daddy warbucks. He's just as mid as Amanda was. Boy it feels good to say WAS when speaking of Amanda

Maybe, maybe not. Hard to tell with the state of being fluxed up that college football is today. What Joey will always bring is that chip-on-the-shoulder, spit-in-your-face, south Fort Worth attitude to the program. The Davids of the college football world, like Baylor, will ALWAYS need that.

If he's not getting it done at a big 12 program with top-tier resources, why would it work at Baylor with average resources? Genuinely curious

My take on human nature: Passed over and pissed off 2 star folks tend to work harder than gold-plated prima donas.

How much money do you really think is left over after paying Dave's buyout and a new coach's buyout to the pay the new coach $5M+? GJ Kinne is the highest price range that can be afforded in this moment.

Aranda beat Joey a couple times in Lubbock, once when Mahomes was in attendance. I wonder if he had Joey's number somehow which gave him an edge. In those same years we had some really bad losses.

We can't afford to buy Riley out at 80 million just for him not any of his staff anyhow.

Need someone with Texas HS ties, Christian, culture builder, and a proven HC. Also, someone who won't be looking for the next best thing.

There's one man that fits this mold better than anyone else.

Baylor don't mess this up.

I wouldn't mind Brown as a fallback, but I agree on the other two.

I think Brown is a good coach. WVU is just a really tough job. The other two are below what our standards should be.

I'm aware. But as a head coach, he went straight from G5 (James Madison) to the Big Ten. There was no stepping stone in between.

I think Eck will do the same thing.

I wonder if McNamee pretty much being a brand new AD would give any potential candidates some pause in thinking about an offer.

From the start he has seemed to be very forward thinking and motivated. Maybe CSD could vouch for him if a potential candidate had questions.

Another plus for Traylor IMO is his age. We worry about some younger ladder climber who'd leave quickly (a la Rhule) instead of building a strong program. I think Traylor would be happy/satisfied at Baylor the rest of his career given a successful tenure.
Reverend
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Traylor is a solid football coach. He's been a head coach for a long time. And been successful. Finally having resources he's only dreamed about, and being at a place he really wants to be could be a recipe for success.

Hiring a coach is always a crapshoot. But I like the odds with him.
