David Smoak, ESPN Central Texas You Make the Call, said this afternoon that just when Clements and SMU looked like it might happen today, another Texas school called Clements.

Try the University of Houston.

Then Smoak proceeded to say that another former Briles staffer looks to be on his way back to Texas as well. Did not say who or to what school.

I couldn't believe this report wasn't all over this board when I checked in a couple of hours later.

Well Tech did just lose their OC. So I would not be surprised at what is being mentioned if Tech. This woukd also probably save KK.

It should be all over the Cougar board. Which one did you check?

Clements would be wise to take the SMU job and be viewed as his own man instead looking like someone who is a Briles family clinger. He's a great coach on his own and if he'll seperate himself he has a chance to rise in the business to a head position.

If the choice is SMU or Tech. Going to Tech is the obvious choice.

Disregard the emogee. Not sure how that got there.

KB's opportunity was to be a professional, to not be distracted by other issues and to lead our coaches to continue to coach a 6-0 team to a possible Big 12 Cham.

Then the "Auburn Fantasy" might have been a reality. You close that season out not with a championship but without contributing to the circus. I truly believe he would have been in a better spot.

He would have most likely been the choice. I wasn't celebrating for Strong to get fired because he was mediocre.
Traditionally fanbases with winning pasts want the status quo among the competition. We had fans rooting for Texas to replace Strong. Rooting for Kansas over Texas isn't in my DNA when UT has a coach going nowhere with the program.
It also goes both ways. OU was excited Monty had moved to Tulsa and replaced by KB.

I recall in October of that year you said it was actually done contract signed and all set to be announced immediately after our regular season final game. I'm not complaining because I'm not sure Texas made such a step up hire either.

Clements is a great coach. He suffered more than any coach for being loyal. Monty should take him as soon as Monty gets that Power 5 job.
Clements did what he was supposed to do at Baylor. He coached his ass off with not the greatest blue chip prospects. I expect success where he is on staff.

Herman wanted Texas as his #1 job. Art Briles wanted the same. Herman had his shot thanks to Strong getting fired. Why cheer for Strong to get fired? It doesn't bother me Herman didn't get it.
Where else would Herman have gone last year without Texas? Baylor would have had a perfect candidate. Herman probably told our AD his pecking order. They had a good relationship.
My dark horse candidate was laughed at by the bottom feeders on Baylorfans. He won the league this year. Do you remember that thread? How good is your memory?

LSU also pursued Herman. I have no idea who your dark horse candidate was I dont remember every thread I start let alone what others start.
