Very Goodell-esque rule to fix things that weren't broke. Might as well add on the kickoff spot pass and really make it interesting.

Alteration to football kickoff rule approved
Return teams will be allowed to fair catch kicks inside the 25-yard line; ensuing drive will start at the 25

The NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel approved altering football's kickoff rules to allow the receiving team to fair catch the kick inside the 25-yard line and have it result in a touchback.
The Football Rules Committee made the proposal to continue efforts to increase the number of touchbacks during kickoffs since fewer injuries occur during kickoffs that result in touchbacks than on kickoffs that are returned. All other aspects of the kickoff play will remain the same.
The new rule is the latest in a series of changes the committee has made in recent years in hopes of making the play safer. Before the 2012 season, kickoffs were moved from the 30-yard line to the 35. The committee also changed the starting position on touchbacks that year so that the receiving team started its drive on the 25-yard line instead of the 20.

All-time quarterback should be coming around 2024 just to make it fair for all.

Just make it frisbee football and be done with this, since the NCAA is not an institution of Football

To me, it's ironic that some of the most vocal critics of these types of changes (referring more to the NFL, but it is really driving college changes) are the old-timer former players, yet they are the ones with injuries who are suing the NFL and causing all of this.

I think it will be a lot sooner than this. The trend for kids is away from football and into other sports......if sports at all. You also probably won't need to worry about realignment. There may not be much to realign....especially once the TV money dries up because too much of the public no longer has the discretionary income to afford the cable or dish, much less consider paying $100 or more per person to attend a game in person.

Football will decline as parents decide that their boys' brains are more important than high school glory. The effect will trickle up to college and pros. There will be less interest as CTE research proliferates. The NFL will no longer be #1 in a generation. These rule changes are just meaningless bandaids.

Because of head injuries the NFL will not be in business in 15 years. College football will also be gone.

Jimmy the Greek told us it's a big boy game. The game suffers because they cannot market the players for more than 5 years.
The NBA markets their guys post retirement. Look at gambler Mike Jordan. He owns a team in North Carolina.
The NFL has Marshawn Lynch. He is too dumb to market himself and maximize his money. Etc.,,etc,,..

Playing Devils advocate because I know a lot of people can't stand soccer. Grew up and still play it, but I know many can't stand the theatrics players put on and it can bother me too ( though watching Lebron today did make me giggle a little).

Soccer took a major crap on the porch not making the World Cup. I remember Barry Switzer giving an interview about not caring about soccer until he saw a 4 or 5 Star football player choose soccer over football. But I thought with increased stories like this that it was becoming more and more a choice 10 or so years from now.

It's biggest obstacle was inner cities youths, until they realized the highest paid soccer player ( Christano Ronaldo- 58 million insalary/bonus to Stanford's 36 million- both based on Forbes), killed all other sports revenue. But with their defeat they may have lost their best opening against football in the last 50 years.

Bruce Arena has been around losing America soccer for years. The United States doesn't allow bribing for sports events. Biggest Us hurdle after Bruce.

I do think that middle school football will be replaced with flag or 7's based on the head injuries. When that happens that's when the interest/participation in high school football will drop. It will be the first domino. Add to that litigation for head injuries.

I think Peyton Manning, Troy Aikman, Terry Bradshaw, Michael Strahan, Brett Favre, Roger Staubach and others are doing pretty well post football. There are just as many high profile football players having success after their playing careers as basketball players, if not more.

Yes it will still be in business. There will always be someone who will sacrifice future health for a paycheck, most likely those on the lower end of the economic spectrum. But our interest will go way down, the way it is with boxing now.

Has boxing interest really gone down that much or has it changed since the inception of pay per view? Financially, isn't Floyd Merriweather, Jr. at the top of the list for earnings over the past few years?

The NFL isn't going anywhere. Neither is the sport of football. Even with the new research on brain injuries people will still play it. Helmet designs are getting better and reducing concussions. Someone may even do some research on one of the ideas that has been thrown out there about removing the face mask ( or going the helmet completely) to prevent head to head stuff.

The sport will adapt and find a way to continue.

They would probably reduce concussions by 90% by going back to leather helmets and smaller pads.

He took a season off because he wanted to get away from SEA that badly. He gave up almost $7mm worth of guaranteed salary to get away from them so he could pick where he wanted to play.

He is known to use his NFL salary on purchasing cash producing rental real estate for his retirement, maxing out his 401k, and loading up on cash value life insurance.

He gives tons of money away every year to legit charitable endeavors. Maybe you could google that.

Your slack-jawed, ill-informed bs is laughable and you keep digging a deeper grave.

Make the boys play both ways again. Speed up the time between plays due to limited substitutions and make the players call the plays in game. It will follow that average player mass drops dramatically decreasing the impact of hits.

10 years from now, I doubt we even have kickoffs. Offense just takes over on their side of the field.
