Brewer's potential game winning pass falls incomplete in Baylor loss
Baylor's defense pitched a second-half shut out and Charlie Brewer had the opportunity to win the game with one second on the clock, but Brewer's pass through the back of the end zone over the head of Jalen Hurd ended a shot at the upset as the Bears fell 23-17 to No. 9 Texas.
1st Quarter
After holding Texas to a field goal, sophomore Charlie Brewer was perfect on Baylor's opening going 6-for-6 for 57 yards with a touchdown pass to Denzel Mims on third down and 11 from the Texas 19. The Bears held Texas to a fourth down after a 57 yard drive to their own 18-yard line. Texas starting quarterback Sam Ehlinger left the game with a cut on his right hand.
Highlights
After a holding penalty on second down on Baylor at the Texas 11-yard line, Brewer completed a 1-yard pass to Marques Jones and followed it up with the touchdown pass to Denzel Mims.

2nd Quarter
Texas opened the second quarter by connecting on a 35-yard field goal to cut Baylor's lead to 7-6. The Longhorns and Bears then traded punts on four-straight possessions before the Bears finally began to move the ball again on their fourth possession. Charlie Brewer and Tyquan Thornton narrowly missed a touchdown connection on third down before kicker Connor Martin connected on his first field goal of the game to move the lead to 10-6. It was all Texas from there as the Longhorns scored 17-straight points on the final three possessions of the half.
Highlights
After Baylor extended their lead to 10-6 with 5:03 remaining, the Bears racked up three penalties for 45 yards to give them a total of 8 penalties for 138 yards over the first 30 minutes of the contest. The Longhorns finished the half with four penalties for 21 yards.
To add insult on insult, after giving the ball back to the Longhorns late in the first half, Baylor cornerback Jameson Houston looked to have secured an interception in the end zone to end the Texas threat, but the pass was called incomplete on the field. On review, the call was "confirmed" by the officials.

3rd Quarter
After two punts by the Bears and one by the Longhorns, Raleigh Texada intercepted a pass and the Bears gained momentum for the first time since the first half. The Bears went on a six-play drive covering 56 yards that was capped by a two-yard touchdown run by Jalen Hurd. The Bears then haulted an eight play, 48-yard Texas drive to a field goal attempt that the Longhorns missed.
Highlights
On a third-and-four from the 50, Brewer connected with Denzel Mims on a 45-yard pass that led to Hurd's touchdown run.

4th Quarter
Baylor drove 80 yards on the final possesion of the game after two Baylor punts to start the final quarter. Charlie Brewer completed four passes for 53 yards but two attempts to win the game in the closing seconds fell short.
Highlights
After not having a catch in the game, Pooh Stricklin entered the game for an injured Denzel Mims and caught two passes for 39 yards. In addition, the Bears shut out the Texas offense after giving up 23 points in the first half, including 17 in the final five minutes of the second quarter.
