Baylor's defense pitched a second-half shut out and Charlie Brewer had the opportunity to win the game with one second on the clock, but Brewer's pass through the back of the end zone over the head of Jalen Hurd ended a shot at the upset as the Bears fell 23-17 to No. 9 Texas.

1st Quarter

After holding Texas to a field goal, sophomore Charlie Brewer was perfect on Baylor's opening going 6-for-6 for 57 yards with a touchdown pass to Denzel Mims on third down and 11 from the Texas 19. The Bears held Texas to a fourth down after a 57 yard drive to their own 18-yard line. Texas starting quarterback Sam Ehlinger left the game with a cut on his right hand.

Highlights

After a holding penalty on second down on Baylor at the Texas 11-yard line, Brewer completed a 1-yard pass to Marques Jones and followed it up with the touchdown pass to Denzel Mims.

Score

Baylor 7, Texas 3

2nd Quarter

Texas opened the second quarter by connecting on a 35-yard field goal to cut Baylor's lead to 7-6. The Longhorns and Bears then traded punts on four-straight possessions before the Bears finally began to move the ball again on their fourth possession. Charlie Brewer and Tyquan Thornton narrowly missed a touchdown connection on third down before kicker Connor Martin connected on his first field goal of the game to move the lead to 10-6. It was all Texas from there as the Longhorns scored 17-straight points on the final three possessions of the half.

Highlights

After Baylor extended their lead to 10-6 with 5:03 remaining, the Bears racked up three penalties for 45 yards to give them a total of 8 penalties for 138 yards over the first 30 minutes of the contest. The Longhorns finished the half with four penalties for 21 yards.

To add insult on insult, after giving the ball back to the Longhorns late in the first half, Baylor cornerback Jameson Houston looked to have secured an interception in the end zone to end the Texas threat, but the pass was called incomplete on the field. On review, the call was "confirmed" by the officials.

Score

Texas 23, Baylor 10

3rd Quarter

After two punts by the Bears and one by the Longhorns, Raleigh Texada intercepted a pass and the Bears gained momentum for the first time since the first half.  The Bears went on a six-play drive covering 56 yards that was capped by a two-yard touchdown run by Jalen Hurd. The Bears then haulted an eight play, 48-yard Texas drive to a field goal attempt that the Longhorns missed.

Highlights

On a third-and-four from the 50, Brewer connected with Denzel Mims on a 45-yard pass that led to Hurd's touchdown run.

Score

Texas 23, Baylor 16

4th Quarter

Baylor drove 80 yards on the final possesion of the game after two Baylor punts to start the final quarter. Charlie Brewer completed four passes for 53 yards but two attempts to win the game in the closing seconds fell short.

Highlights

After not having a catch in the game, Pooh Stricklin entered the game for an injured Denzel Mims and caught two passes for 39 yards. In addition, the Bears shut out the Texas offense after giving up 23 points in the first half, including 17 in the final five minutes of the second quarter.

Final Score

Texas 23, Baylor 17

Awful pass.. I guess he let the moment get to him. Too bad.

Sad, but I'm a bit more confident about this team's ability to get to six wins. OSU and TCU do not look good, right now.

Wasn't Brewer's fault. Fruhmorgen atrociously whiffed on his block which allowed the DE to practically break Charlie in half just as he was throwing the ball. I was surprised he got so much on the throw.

Still fuming about that INT. That was a pick. Clearly.

I think Fruhmorgen is seriously injured (knee). Thats what i heard from some ppl close to the team. I think that despite being injured he is the best option on the two deep. Either he is injured or else he is just bad.

If Mims is in the game at the end, I think we win.

Pooh stepped up to the plate though in clutch time and did some Mims-like catches in the 4th.

He really did.. seems like a at least a year since I've heard them call his name, but he had some great catches yesterday.
