Lots of blowouts on the schedule this week but there are two big non-conference matchups. Can Texas take down another SEC powerhouse? Can West Virginia earn its new coach a massive road win? Let's find out.

Week 1 | Week 2

Week 2

Saturday, September 7th

Bowling Green 14, Kansas State 35 (Manahattan)

Skyler Thompson gets thing going against one of the worst defenses in the country. He throws two touchdown passes, one to Isaiah Zuber and one to Dalton Schoen. He also runs in a touchdown. The running backs get to work too as James Gilbert and Tyler Burns combine for 150 yards and a touchdown. The Wildcats control the tempo and keep Bowling Green off the field.

Coastal Carolina 20, Kansas 37 (Lawrence)

The Jayhawks are trying to get only its second two game winning streak since 2011….Let that sink in. The Jayhawks survived the possible upset last week. Pooka Williams tears apart this porous Coastal Carolina defense that gave up 40+ points five times last season. Williams hits the 200 yard mark in this one and scores twice. Khalil Herbert and Dom Williams each score as well. The Chantecliers are able to score a few times but Kansas takes care of business and start 2-0 for the first time since that epic 2011 season. They finished 2-10 that year.

UTSA 14, Baylor 44 (Waco)

The Bears redeemed the loss in 2017 against the Roadrunners last year but redeeming themselves at home would mean much more. There are a lot of guys on this Baylor team that lost that game to UTSA and they won’t forget that. UTSA will be improved but it won’t matter on the road. Charlie Brewer has 300 yards of total offense and four touchdowns. He finds Chris Platt for a 70-yard touchdown early in the game. Denzel Mims and Trestan Ebner each catch a touchdown. Clay Johnston has 10 tackles, two sacks, and a forced fumble as the Bears roll.

West Virginia 20, Missouri 33 (Columbia)

Both of these teams will take a step back this season but one has to win this game. I am going with the team that has a veteran quarterback and a system in place that has worked. Kelly Bryant and running back Larry Rountree move the Missouri offense with a powerful run game as the Tigers run for 250 yards on the Mountaineers. Austin Kendal throws a couple interceptions  but the run game with Mccoy and Pettaway keeps them in it. This one is close going into the fourth till Kelly Bryant leads a late scoring drive to put it away.

UTEP 13, Texas Tech 41 (Lubbock)

For the second straight year, the Miners made their case to be the worst team in FBS football as they have gone 1-23 the past two seasons. They kept games a little close last year but this one won’t be. Alan Bowman puts up 400 yards and four touchdowns to four different receivers. The Red Raiders also force three turnovers as they overwhelm UTEP.

McNeese 17, Oklahoma State 48 (Stillwater)

The Oklahoma State offense goes off this week. Spencer Sanders and Tylan Wallace connect in the end zone twice. Chubba Hubbard runs in a score and the Cowboys defense forces three turnovers as the Cowboys take this one easily at home.

South Dakota 13, Oklahoma 52 (Norman)

South Dakota gave up 49+ points three times in its last four games to end the season. That doesn’t bode well when you travel to face a team that averaged 48.4 point per game last year. The Sooners are going to score all the points it wants to in this one. Jalen Hurts finds Charleston Rambo for a 50+ yard touchdown pass on the opening drive and the Sooners cruise form there. Kennedy Brooks and Trey Sermon each score on the ground. The defense plays well in this one as well forcing a pair of turnovers and getting to the quarterback six times.

LSU 20, Texas 21 (Austin)

The game of the week is here. This one is going to be a heck of a contest as Tom Herman gets his teams ready for big games. Sam Ehlingher has a rough game passing as he is constantly running for his life against LSU’s missing piece from a year ago, K’Lavon Chaisson. But the Longhorns find success on the ground and don’t lose the turnover battle. Ehlingher and Keaontay Ingram each score on the ground in the first half. But Joe Burrows answers with two passing touchdowns in the 3rd quarter to give the Tigers a 20-14 lead going into the 4th. The teams stall for most of the quarter but Sam Ehlingher gets the ball late and drives Texas down inside the LSU 10-yard line before throwing a jump ball to Collin Johnson in the corner of the end zone. Johnson comes down with it as the Longhorns get a massive non-conference.
