DEPTH CHART | SCHEDULE | BIG 12 STANDINGS | COACHING STAFF

Matt Rhule Quote of the Week...

“Maturity, I mean, they like those games, I mean, I think in all these close games we’re pretty even with those teams. I like to learn from older coaches and I listened to Coach Patterson, he said something like, ‘we are just good enough to beat everybody and we are just good enough to lose to everybody.’ And if you’ve listened to what I say in the press conference at the beginning of the year I say I think we have a chance to beat everyone on our schedule and I think every team has a chance to beat us. I think we are a team that isn’t going to overwhelm you early. We are not there yet. I would like to get there, but we are not where we can just roll the balls out there and be up 28-0. We are going to have to show grit and fight and try to wear you down. We are going to keep it close, keep it close and then in the second half when the other team maybe gets tired, we are a pretty conditioned, pretty tough team and our offensive line now, most of our sacks were early, the first three drives were atrocious and then once we kind of kept staying with it, we can protect a little bit more, hold on a little bit more and then our guys get to the fourth quarter and that was our first fourth quarter shutout, which is a big thing we talk about but we haven’t really done it this year.

Baylor’s Key Players

Quarterback #12 Charlie Brewer — Of course the QB1 for the Bears is going to be one of the key players in a road matchup in the biggest rivalry matchup of the season for both teams.

Wide Receiver #5 Denzel Mims — His connection with Brewer is going to be key in this one. For large junks of the game he will be covered by and All Big 12 caliber corner in Jeff Gladney so the chances could be limited.

Defensive linemen #98 Chidi Ogbonnaya and #90 TJ Franklin — Obviously if Bravvion Roy doesn’t play then these two are even more important but I think they will play a critical role regardless. Both have played a ton and gained valuable experience but they will need to continue growing down the stretch with Roy and Gabe Hall both banged up.

Safety #15 Christian Morgan — It’s time! Morgan has had a rough year so far filled with injuries and limited playing time. He is finally starting to get back on track and the loss of Chris Miller for this game will expand his role. He won’t get the start but I think you will see him rotating in and out more consistently.

Texas Christian University Key Players

Running backs #6 Darius Anderson and #33 Sewo Olonilua — As I mentioned above, the TCU rush offense is 3rd in the Big 12 averaging 220 yards per game. If they get that number they will be in good shape to win this game.

Wide receiver #1 Jalen Reagor — It doesn’t matter who plays quarterback because whoever it is will be searching for this guy. He has 32 receptions for 454 yards and four touchdowns. He also makes an impact in the punt return game where he is averaging 18.4 yards per return.

Defensive tackles #90 Ross Blacklock and #94 Corey Bethley — The two big fellas in the middle anchor a defense that is 3rd in the conference in rush yards allowed per game. They would be number one if they didn’t get gashed for 300 yards against Oklahoma State last weekend.

Maybe Rhule should call Fleck at half-time and ask him how to prepare a team to play an important game.

Half time, BU is behind 3 scores to tie, not going to be able to score TD's. Game could easily be 16-0 if toad didn't drop Goal line pass. BU won't be able to overcome a three score lead.

OU will win by 35+ easy against this team. Even if the D holds for 1-2 quarters this offensive will have them collapsed on the field and dead.

I can't live with No TDS. We need two now.

22 rushing.

Maybe we should use the fake punt formation for every play in the second half

This game our O is losing it. It looks related to the O line. Every time Hasty or Lovett get any lane they never get past the 2nd level. TCU's D so far is playing very well, but I don't think we are challenging downfield enough. Rhule seems to open it up after half so I expect a dogfight the second half cuz our D I do not think will give up any TD's but we gotta score at least 2 to win. So you sort of have to open it up. Halftime adjustments are EVERYTHING now.

Does CMR understand that this is the one game you REALLY need to win as a Baylor coach?

I thought he would have learned last season when we lost to a terrible TCU team...

Complete Repeat.

How would it be 16-0 if they had caught that? The drive ended in a FG. Also, as has been pointed out, it's a two score game.

Its symbolism or something.

9-0 halftime score means we will be 9-0 by end of game

I am thinking our team (offense) really only likes to play 1 half of football. Hoping they get it together

Looks like Minn used their #17 ranking by the CFP as some motivation

Our first punt and the last kickoff represent the mess of today. Special teams has a lot to adjust

I get we were trying to establish the run but it killed 3 of our drives calling stupid run at the middle plays. And we have not ONCE tried a deep pass

Again, hope for major adjustments

Defense played really well but the offense needs to be smarter and use our deep threat

That which does not kill me, will try again and get nastier

Of the two, they are real and we're the pretender for sure.

I am not so sure I'd be that quick to say that. I can't remember a good first half this year! So why would it change now. I do not like Rhule always saying "we gotta win it in the 4th qtr," Maybe it is just psychological but I hate it. Anyway, we'll see transpires, but you cannot keep our O down for less than 2 TD's in the 2nd half.

We tried a deep ball. It was badly underthrown.

You're correct... it would have been 13-zip. BU would need to score five times unless toads score again. Yep, Four FG's, it doesn't look like the O can score TD's.

I have said all week we aren't as good as our ranking. I think Minnesota is just better than us at this time. DEPEnding on why else happens today the CFP should drop us a little with a win should it happen.
BearlySober
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yep. He is a good QB and very efficient, put pushing the ball downfield is not one of his strengths. Our long passing plays are usually the result of shallow to middle crossing routes, not vertical go routes.
Oldbear83
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Well, we had a good first half against Rice then nothing in the 2nd half

What kills me is that TCU feeds off their fans. They will play with lots of energy all game now. Even if we start the second half with a touchdown TCU still gets the ball with the lead. It's going to be a rough rest of the way.

Worse, if we don't get points to start Q3 we will realky be in a hole.

I believe the Bears will come back, but this first half should have been played very different on offense.

Which is why we're so stagnant. Tcu has always been susceptible to the deep ball and it opens them up for the rest of the gameplan. We are not that good with it this year. Something Brewer (weak o line play hasn't helped) isn't great at.

I agree we get a boost in ranks for being undefeated, but Baylor is better than TCU but you wouldn't know it from our first half

BU's fan forum is always interesting. 8-0 and we're bantering back and forth about Final Four and B12 Championship. Yet BU hasn't really played "anyone".

TCU, OU and TX won't bode well.
