Folks dont be so damn gullible with the next guy. He will also be a mercenary and yes he will lie to you. Sometimes Baylor hires people who even play a God card at first as their first card in playing you. I recommend you not be gullible and just expect wins. Especially if the next guy is also among the highest paid HCs in the country.

This. The more savvy fans could see Rhule plays the part wherever he goes. Like a chameleon, he was "just one of the guys" in north philly that is until God called him to a baptist school in Waco. Don't be surprised if gets off the plane in Carolina wearing a bbq apron talking about his life passion for pulled pork.

It turns out Rhule was actually not one of the highest paid coaches in the country like we have been hearing for months now. I'm starting to think the reports of his contract and buyout being the biggest in college football was just a ploy to keep teams away and make them think they couldn't afford him.

An old AD told me he didn't socialize with his coaches, didn't get to know their wives or kids.

Sooner or later they are probably leaving, perhaps after being fired.

It is a business.

A side note; it is hard to believe that a 10 year commitment has only a $6 million buy-out.

Rhule saved our Football Program and restored our credibility. Does anyone remember being called RapeU and not being able to recruit? ESPN even loves us now. We owe him a lot. I wish him well. #JoeyMcGuire4BU

We wont know until tax returns are released but he apparently did start out at 4 million a year in 17 and was paid an additional 3 million as well that first year, which is safe to assume was buyout money Baylor paid for him but I dont know that for sure.

If he was given a significant bump in September, it seems it would have been significantly higher than at least 4 million a year.

Rhule/Rhoades are geniuses and always had Baylor's best interest in mind.

We all should appreciate them for working out and executing the recent extension/contract....planning together on this inevitable event. Both knowing it would happen, they set it up so that the NFL buyout now reimburses Baylor for most (if not all) of the 3 years of Rhule's comp while at Baylor.

Brilliant, and THANK YOU Coach Matt Rhule!

LOL. NO Rhule clearly did not have BU's best interest in mind.

He leaves with a losing record at Baylor. In other words.... a loser.

Good bye.

I never thought he was committed to Baylor. A few of us saw through the BS.

His career at BU:

Year 1: Tanked
Year 2: Average (good bowl game against an average opponent)
Year 3: Lightning in a bottle (lots of close games, but good D and solid play)
- Despite the amazing success, we are last in the Big 12 in recruiting
- Rhule is proclaimed a savior and parlays that into an NFL job

Summary:
Losing Record at BU
Didn't win against ranked opponents
Horrible recruiter
Got us to the Big 12 championship and New Year's game somehow

I think he is an OK guy, but the hype was a little smoke and mirrors.

I always thought he was possibly losing in year 1 on purpose to work the turn around story in his favor. How else could you lose with so much better talent than Liberty and UTSA? I would stop myself from saying it as it sounded too outlandish but now it doesn't so much.

Of Course he was. But anyone who said this until now was run out of town.

Show me any time where he said, "I'm not leaving." He never said anything but coach speak.

The problem is every school in the world besides a couple of blue bloods has been a stepping stone, but this has never happened to Baylor. Now everyone here is beside themselves.

Welcome to the rest of the world. Even a national champion LSU got left by Saban for the NFL. It happens. Quit whining like babies.
True. He never flat out said he was not leaving. It was always well designed sales guy talk to give the Fan Boys the words they wanted to hear to appease them. Some of us knew he was leaving... its what made those smooth answers so sickening to hear.

Quit being a baby. Welcome to big time football. This is what happens. It happened to LSU.

This board is a joke.
Pretty much.

Good coaches get hired away sometimes. Particularly good ones who are young and ambitious.

Matt Rhule did a great job during a pivotal time in Baylor football history and left for crazy money in the NFL. Thank him for what he did and get behind the next guy.

Yeah, maybe he's leaving. Sucks in some ways, but he did a good job in just 3 seasons and there's no call to treat him like he robbed us.

And if it turns out he's not leaving ...

Not a good job.

Losing to Liberty....

Not a good job.

Choking to OU.... twice in one season....

Not a good job.

Choking in the bowl game....

Not a good job.

He had one horrible season, one mediocre season, and one good season with 3 incredible choke jobs.
Imagine calling losing to OU on a neutral field in overtime with your 3rd string QB going up against their Heisman finalist a choke job.

Or losing by 12 to the fifth-ranked SEC runner-up in a game you were a 7-point underdog going in and your QB was coming off of a concussion and then got knocked out of the game again.

Baylor fans, folks. The whiniest, *****iest titty babies in all of P5 football.
Imagine.... fans of a coach who have their lips so planted on his backside that they cannot see any wrong he has done even after he leaves less than a week after saying he is coming back, after he spent his only 2 offseasons flirting with the NFL and allowing OU to achieve their largest comeback EVER, only to follow that up a few weeks later with a flat start to the championship game and then losing to Georgia by being dominated (after this coach talked about physical and bringing defense).

Yes that is a choke job.

The only true facts said. The ugly lie that CMR tanked the first season on purpose to build his resume just shows how ignorant some of these trolls are. Then again, they hated CMR from the start, so they will keep on piling on pretending CMR did them some fake injustice when really they weren't supportive of him or his program rebuilding in the first place.

Who the **** are you and where have you been the past 16 months?

It's Cowboy. Pretty easy to tell. Just keep flagging them until the ban hammer comes out again.
AH yes. Flag and ban trolls who are literally nowhere to be found until something bad happens and litter the board with their bull*****

Can't argue facts so resort to cussing and name calling.

The facts are that Baylor just tied its school record for wins and played in just its third major bowl in three decades ... and did this just four years removed from a massive rape scandal, you dip*****

Rhule was the 26th highest paid coach last year in terms of salary. Multiple 3rd party sites reference this number, and everyone who said his salary was $5M+ were just repeating numbers someone in this board stated or they were just lying.

$4M is nothing to shake a stick at, but it was reasonable given his resume and his other suitors at the time he left Temple (i.e. Oregon).

Also, where did Rhule like and who did he lie to?

$4M was his starting salary. He got a pay bump earlier this year. Baylor is a private institution so we will not find out for a couple of years what he was bumped to. But it likely was $5M+.

He didn't lie. He made it clear each of the past two offseasons that there would calls and he would listen.

Some of you were just too proud/butthurt to listen to what he was telling you.
He did lie.

He said he wanted to be here for the 2020 season.

I have been saying since his first year when he flirted with NFL teams that he would be gone within 5 years.

I was laughed at for saying that because he "was called by God to Baylor." "loves Baylor" Signed a huge extension that shows he wants to be here, etc.

Now that I point out I was right.... people simply call for a ban because they don't want to eat their crow.

I'm upset he left. I'd rather we get a long-term solution now.

I'm not going to make up a bunch of BS about him being a bad coach who choked away games or failed to show up where he didn't. He got out football program through its worst scandal ever and tied its single-season win record in year 3.

Now we need someone who can do that without interviewing elsewhere every season and tanking our recruiting.
