I hope he stays. Aranda has handled it properly. Time for Joey to get on or off the train.

Seems JM would see the benefit of being on a National Title winning HCs staff.
Risk being out of a job in a year or two at TX. Stay here a year or two and then go on to be a DC or HC somewhere.
The man has to realize (despite his HS HC experience) he is not ready for a HC position right now. In a year or two, if he shines, an AD could then justify bringing him in.
He needs to be patient with that and take what I am sure is a heck of an opportunity here at BU. Coming off of Rhules and Aranda coaching tree could look REALLY good in 2-3 years. ...he still has to prove himself though.
Some of you guys are trying too hard to convince yourselves that Joey needs Baylor to accomplish his career goals and that we're doing him a favor by keeping him around. If Joey leaves, it will be for a really good job that provides every bit the experience that this one does.
I hope he stays because he's a major asset. But his career will be just fine if he leaves ... because other good programs realize he's a major asset.
You guys seem to want to have your cake and eat it too. But you can't spend two weeks ripping Joey's career experience and downplaying his importance to the program and then be disappointed when he leaves after being passed up in favor of Aranda.
For the record, I think Aranda will build a strong staff whether Joey stays or not. But I'm not going to try to convince myself that Joey's not good at what he does or won't have other great options because I want him to stay at Baylor.
How many people do you know that made it to the C-Suite of a business after three years in the industry?LIB,MR BEARS said:

If he wants to go to OU, he'd better learn how to hide evidence. But I'm certain he's talking to UT as well.
It seems like he's specifically looking to go to in conference schools, it's hard to satisfy someone whose primary motivation is ego. But when the leader you follow is just in it for a ride to the NFL. This is what we get.
I guess that Baylor through and through stuff was bs.
If you want to know why some assistants never end up as head coaches, here it is.

Leadership isn't taken, it's given.
Joey McGuire isn't going to walk into UT or OU and start calling the shots. He might be lucky if he's got even half the responsibility he has at Baylor after a year.
Herman and Riley didn't build their organizations on the notion that they would give away key responsibilities of their organizations to people they had little reason to trust.

When Rhule left most on this board we're screaming for McGuires hire. In fact demanding it. I posted although I liked McGuire, Baylor's job is not a stepping stone job anymore because of pay, facilities, and location centered in the hottest area in the country for recruits and I also didn't want a 3 year removed high school coach here regardless. I said we should be casting a wide, wide net. I'm glad we did. If McGuires feelings are hurt I'm sorry but he hasn't earned the right to be a P5 level coach as of yet. I'm reminded that Briles put his name in the hat for the opening when we hired Morris. Briles was at Tech as an assistant. Disappointed Briles went to Teaff and asked him what he needed to do because Baylor was a job he really wanted. Teaff's words to him we're you need to get a head job at a lower level, be successful, and maybe you'll get a shot. Well regardless of how you feel about Briles he succeeded by the instructions of Teaff. If McGuire wants a P5 job he needs to follow Teaffs instructions or become a top notch Cordinator at a high profile institution to get a job such as ours. And yes I say ours as I will say this for the last time, we are no small fry in the college football game anymore. Under 3 coach's in the last 8 years we have had 5, 10+ win seasons. You look around the country and there are not many programs that have comparable records. A 3 year removed high school coach, no freaking way heading our program. Glad to have Aranda. Hope McGuire stays unless he resonates bitterness from not being chosen head coach. If that happens then he needs to go.

You guys are clowns. If Joey leaves, it's not out of disloyalty to Baylor or because he's being petty. It's because he wants to be a college head coach and that opportunity dried up here with the Aranda hire.
Joey's not a young man. If he wants to lead a program, he needs to be working toward that goal with every decision he makes. The man clearly loves Baylor and his players, and he has been a consummate professional through a tough situation. But he can't afford to wait around here, treading water to make Baylor fans happy. If he stays, it will be because it makes sense for him and his career goals to stay. And the exact same will be true if he leaves.
You jackasses need to stop trying to tie men's character and integrity to how long they decide to stay at Baylor. It makes you look stupid.

You are going to need a counselor if Joey leaves.
In fact, the bubble that drools over Joey will need the same type of counseling used after school shootings.
FWIW, some of you all need to get some new material when someone disagrees with you. It's not booze or illness when the company line isn't propped up.
Tellme, you are batting 1.000 with the coaching search which was actually over a week before the announcement and you predicted that Joey was heavily shopping himself.

You're consistently resorting to the false dichotomy argument by characterizing anyone that disagrees as belittling him. I haven't seen anyone say that. Even the people I think are the most harsh critics. Flirting with UT and OU for a horizontal move on paper isn't a good look and I guarantee he'll have paper authority only. I'm looking out for Joey in pointing out what most think and that is that they'll use him and toss him aside just like they did a few other coaches.bear2be2 said:

I've already said that I think it would be best for his career to leave. I have no emotional investment whatsoever in Joey McGuire staying at Baylor. I'd like to see it happen because I'm a Baylor fan and he's a great coach, but I'd encourage him to take whatever job he thinks will get him a head coaching position the quickest.
It's funny, the ones arguing most vociferously that he should stay and/or hurry up his decision-making process are those that have been deriding him as a "high school coach" and downplaying his impact on the program. They think we're doing him a favor by keeping him on and don't realize that he'll have no shortage of suitors when he leaves.
Due diligence. Decisions of this nature are difficult when you invest in people the way Joey McGuire does.TellMeYouLoveMe said:what's he waiting on then? And most fan bases don't get worked up at all about the movements of assistant football coaches. This one just has a weird Annie Wilkes Misery relationship with Joey McGuire for some reason and thinks it knows better than he does what his next move should be.
If you never called him a "high school coach" at any point in the past two-plus weeks, I'm not talking to you. And I think it's hilarious that you think you're "looking out for Joey," as though he needs some message board conspiracy theorist to tell him what he should do with his career.
He knows far better than you do what he would be getting himself into, and working under Lincoln Riley at Oklahoma would be phenomenal job experience for any aspiring head coach. To suggest otherwise is just silly.
