Ten Things: Baylor vs. West Virginia

Baylor and West Virginia squared off Saturday in a pivotal game for Baylor in a quest to stay in the Big 12 race. Here are the ten things which stood out during the game:

  1. Tyquan Thornton‍ to the house!
  2. Defense needs to learn how to get a stop on the first series
  3. The offensive playcalling to start the game has been great and Bears are up 14-7
  4. DL got some push and Gabe Hall‍  tips the Doege pass for a Jalen Pitre‍ interception
  5. Welcome back Terrel Bernard‍
  6. Baylor looks like it can do whatever it wants on offense and has 300+ yards in the with 10 to go in the second
  7. Eat Siaki Ika‍!
  8. Alfahiym Walcott‍ with a great pass breakup inside the 10
  9. Ben Sims‍ on the wheel route for the TD!
  10. Siaki Ika‍ turning into a Stills brother in reverse?
  11. TJ Franklin‍ with some heat on the sack!
  12. Abram Smith‍ might have put the game away with his TD run, 42-13
  13. Stop with the dumb penalties
  14. Good to see the younger players get some run
  15. 5-1 on the season and BYU coming to town for homecoming

At what point do you change the title of this to Fifteen Things?

Agree with 3 and I was critical of coaches vs OSU. Well done Grimes and Aranda.

Aranda finally allowed Grimes to utilize his O, and to let G Bo run the RVO with all of it's possibilities. Please, Coach Aranda, don't go back to micromanaging the Offensive side of the ball. If we can score 32+ points per game, we'll have a chance for the Big 12 Championship this year.

Has Aranda been the one to make the final play call? I thought Grimes had carte blanche to be the shot caller?

In Aranda's roundabout Zen like fashion, he's admitted that he was responsible for the O failure at OSU, but, to his credit, a la WVA, he's learning to let Grimes be Grimes. Hey, that's just my view. I felt strongly that it would be hard to win P5 games running 2/3, and passing 1/3. That has been proven in the last 2 weeks. Against WVA, Baylor was more 50/50. Also, I think that now Aranda is not as determined to win "his way", but will win in whatever way the opposing D allows. Saturday, against BYU, we should be able to have a great day running, though. We'll see.
