Who knows if this will actually happen. But, an Austin developer is throwing out names they are envisioning for a 88 acre development like Trader Joe's, HEB Central Market, La Cantana.

Given the proximity of the giant HEB at 84 & Hewitt Dr, his best bet may be a second Aldi in town.

I live in Stone Creek Ranch, which is basically right across the street, and I'm not entirely sure how I feel about this.

There are seemingly worse developments that could be put there, and if we got a grocery before China Spring, that would be objectively hilarious. But I also enjoy having no traffic. So, I'm conflicted. You put a Central Market or Trader Joe's in there though, my wife might spontaneously combust in an explosion of sunshine and rainbows.

Trader Joe's would be incredible. I wonder how a Sprouts Market would do. They opened a store in Tyler a couple years ago so they could be on a continued push into midsize markets.

I was going to say McGregor is a strange location at this time for this development, but then I realized the location is next to the McGregor Airport. That is just 3-4 miles past the Ritchie Road exit of 84 which means this location is practically in Woodway.

The HEB at 84 and Hewitt Dr is hardly a giant HEB, and it is on the verge of being much to small to service the area as is, let alone that there are over 1000 new homes being built within 3 miles.

Sorry. I edited while you were posting this. I looked at google earth and depending on the exact site, the aerial view that was shown in the paper on google earth looks to be approximately about 4 miles rounding up from Ritchie Road and 84.

This is already a conundrum for HEB as the HEB Plus in Woodway was only the second built, so it was built undersized, especially for the market the way it is now.

They're about to reap havoc on that interchange anyway at 84 and Hewitt Drive.

HEB should do this: close the Woodway store and open two stores in its place: one at the new development and one on Interstate 35 at Hewitt Drive.

That HEB would be poised to go up against the Walmart at the next exit while better serving the growing Hewitt, Lorena, and Robinson markets. There are no less than 6 subdivisions going up in that general vicinity.

It would also serve the mid-cities of Bruceville-Eddy and Troy. Yes, Troy. Even though Troy neighbors Temple, it is a good 20 minutes from the nearest HEB, so a Hewitt location on the interstate would actually be as or more convenient for those in northern Bell, western Falls, and southern McLennan counties.

If they built an HEB out this way (by the McGregor Airport) that was more in the style of a "neighborhood" HEB, like the neighborhood Walmart concept, I would be elated. We don't need a grocery store where we can also buy 80in OLED TV's.

Sorry the area does need a Super HEB. Whether it is a new one in the Woodway area (Hewitt and 35 are not Woodway area) or they just keep the current one. Downsizing to a little HEB for the Woodway area would not be a good decision for HEB. BTW the current HEB out there is just fine.

As a Waco native turned Northeast Dallas resident and living again in Waco, this makes me so happy! We are building less than 10 minutes away from this location and I would love shopping and a Trader Joe's/Whole Foods/Sprouts to come here. This area is perfect and in my opinion in need of some retail.

I'd welcome a Trader Joe's or something similar, but I must admit that the combination of HEB, East Market, and any of the 4 Mexican Markets works just fine for my needs right now.

I'm not saying that Trader Joe's isn't coming to that area; however, they would be much better suited in Central Texas Market Place.

The McGregor seems a little too limited at this point for them to move there.

There name on this announcement feels more splash to draw attention to the project. (Think every time Pappasito's is mentioned.) I could see Central Market saying yes to that area.

[Crap. I thought about Pappasito's - now I want Tex-Mex tonight]

McGregor is to Woodway/Hewitt what McKinney/Allen were to Plano back in the early 90s.

I expect McGregor (and Speegleville) to start experiencing rapid growth, probably sooner rather than later. With the overpass that was completed over Speeglville/Old Lorena Rd in 2020, it puts a much much quicker drive from McGregor to Waco... no more getting bottlenecked at that light.

I think this development, The Concourse, will probably get done.

There seems to quite a bit of development still going on in HWY 84 corridor. In the next 12 -18 years, I wouldn't be surprised if McGregor ISD becomes an in-demand school district.

Infrastructure out that way is about be revamped as well. They are about to begin construction of a fly over exchange between 340 and 84 similar to the the one at 35 and 340. This is badly needed as of now btw. Additionally the Hewitt exit is about to be revamped at the same time along with 84 expansion along that stretch ( caveat: my memory may be a little murky over whether 84 is being expanded).

wooded acres expanded and v mills is alot newer.

There is a 2 story HEB in
san antonio or houston(cant remember)

The woodway one used to be biggest in the company but that has long since passed. They may need another HEB at other end of Hewitt soon. That area is growing fast.
