Baylor center Flo Thamba announces return for fifth year
On Monday morning the Baylor men’s basketball program received some good news as senior Flo Thamba announced his intentions to utilize his extra year of eligibility and return for the 2022-2023 season as a fifth year season.
"These past four years have been amazing,” Thamba wrote. “From struggling to earn playing time to starting every game on a National Championship team, it's been an incredible journey.
“I'm so thankful for the coaches who have helped me grow, the teammates who encouraged me and sacrificed for each other, and everyone who has supported us along the way. I'm proud to have a Baylor degree, but there's more work to be done.
“With the support of my coaches, I'M EXCITED TO RETURN FOR A FIFTH SEASON AND CONTINUE WORKING ON MY MASTER'S DEGREE LET'S GO GET A THIRD-STRAIGHT BIG 12 TITLE AND ANOTHER NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!”
Thamba, who signed with Baylor in the 2018 class, has completed four years on the court, but because of the covid pandemic during his career, was allowed an additional year of eligibility.
Thamba has played in 106 career games as a Bear. In the 2021-2022 season, Thamba averaged a career highs with 6.2 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game.
Following an injury to fellow big man Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua, Thamba saw his minutes elevated drastically over the final 10 games of the season. In that stretch Thamba averaged 9.8 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game.
