His improvement is amazing.

I started noticing it a lot when we played in Canada.

It seems like when he is on the floor good things happen

Just my opinion but if he keeps playing like this he needs to be looked at as a starter. He plays solid defense and gets others involved.

Over who?? DB is greatly improved but he's not starting over Cryer, Flag or George. Those 3 are still a big step above DB

I kinda like him as a 6th man right now. A spark of hustle and he has shown the ability to create so far this year. Something to keep an eye on.

I think he's alluding to starting over Cryer for defensive purposes. I shouldn't speak for them though.

He would be a good sixth man and he made small strides last year

His defense is good and he is probably getting better in practice because who he is going against

Going from from Div II to a defending Nat'l Champ can be a tall order. Glad he is more comfortable and proving Drew's eye's for needles. Keep it up young gun!

Bonner had a great game last night. He has absolutely improved his game. This Baylor team is so deep that once we get Every Day John back the may be no ceiling on what these guys can do. Our guards are excellent which is how you win in the NCAA tournament. Adding Bridges is going to make us more athletic and play with a killer mentality. Another great job by Coach Drew to put this team on the court.

He is already looked at as a starter. In our system our top 8 guys are looked at as starters, so it truly doesn't matter which 5 are out there to begin the game.

Amazing indeed.

Fairmont State is just a few minutes from Morgantown, WV - right in Huggins' backyard.

From everything I've seen there is some hope we might see him play a bit in conference play but it is unlikely. He seems to be healing quickly though.

I think that's the perfect role for him, and I'm basically the president of the Dale Bonner fan club on this board. I absolutely love the guy.

I've been saying this for a long time. Dale Bonner is the best defensive and passing guard on this team. He was last year, too.

Is there another program in America with two better player development success stories than Freddie Gillespie and Dale Bonner? If there is, I'd like to see it.

In the words of Gunnery Sgt. Hartman in Full Metal Jacket, Dale Bonner is "born again hard" comparing last season to this.

At one point last season, I actually questioned a couple of times whether he was D1 material as he was so out of control -- and got very little blowback from it. Bur Dale is very much a changed player this season and it's been evident ever since the opening game of the Canadian series back in late summer.

Looking forward to seeing him progress even more this season as he has finally harnessed his speed/agility/decision making. As one pundit (I forget who) recently stated, Bonner is quite likely the fastest/quickest player in college hoops -- and there's still much upside to go.

Bonner was many things last year, but out of control was never really one of them. He had 2-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio and only averaged three field goal attempts per game. He struggled mightily with his 3-point shot, but he was a pretty effective player otherwise, especially for a guy jumping from Division II to the Big 12.

On the contrary, he was out-of-control more often than not. This has become much less so as the game has slowed down for him. He was effective defensively, but a liability much of the rest of the time (with a couple of exceptions). He was thrust into action out of necessity -- before he was ready -- and it showed. This season is an entirely different deal for Dale altogether.

Out of control, how? He had the best turnover-to-minutes played ratio of any of our guards last year. He was among the best in assists-to-minutes played. And he wasn't an indiscriminate shooter, evidenced by his 50 percent FG percentage from inside the arc. He was a terrible 3-point shooter last year, but most of those he missed were decent looks. He got big eyes sometimes, but when I think of out-of-control players, I think of excessive turnovers and a lot of bad shots. Bonner has never really fit that bill.
Crawfoso1973

He wasn't out-of-control, but was absolutely horrific shooter from downtown. He shot an abyssmal 19% from beyond the arc so once the scouting report was out on him teams could simply sag off and let him throw up bricks. I don't remember seeing him force up any bad shots because when you are left wide open you have to take them. Remains to be seen once we begin conference where teams have the scouting report on him if we will be more of the same. Knowing his work ethic he probably put up hundreds of shots per day in the offseason to shore up this weakness. Playing with so many elite offense weapons who can collapse defenses, he should get plenty of wide open looks so he has to make teams pay who leave him open.

George is a really good passer, too. I think Bonner is a little ahead of him at this stage. For a guy playing primarily off the ball, Dale's assist numbers are ridiculous this season and they've been really good throughout his career. And like Keyonte, he creates for teammates without turning the ball over much at all.

I'm interested to see how Dale performs this weekend against legit top 20 competition. He's played great so far but the competition can't be ignored. Having solid games against this weekends opponents could really launch Bonner into a fantastic 2nd season in Waco

What a sucky performance. Too many things to even list that we did poorly.

1. Bridges played awful. I have never seen him look that bad. He did not look happy.
2. Flo
3. Guards are more comfortable moving away from the basket than towards it until 9 mins left in the game.
4. If we can't get our guards to the rim, we will never shoot 3s.

George came on after starting slow. Lohner has some heart. Love Bonner but he and Cryer have to learn to handle the ball better.

So we found out tonight we can be beat. I bet we rebound on Sunday.

Bonner is a terrific defensive specialist and glue guy but nothing beyond that. And that is okay. I think some posters have unrealistic expectations for him. He still appears to be a horrific shooter from the perimeter even though I know he puts in the work. He had open looks which he needed to take, but they were just way off.
Quinton
How long do you want to ignore this user?
George is by far our best ball handler and passer already. Struggled early as expected and is deferring to the more seasoned guys but coaches need to assure him it's okay and start running the action through him.

Bonner looked a step slow and ball handling wasn't up to high D1 level. Not ready to make judgement yet. Still wait and see but disappointing first run. Hopefully picks it up next game against a very good team
