Living in Austin the past 15+ years, I have seen how this school operates at a high level in situations like this. I see two outcomes:
1. There is a large faction within the UT academic community that rails against the UT athletic department and the influence they yield across campus, the state and with money. They will be ready to pounce if UT provides a slap on the wrist. Would a history professor get the same treatment? If someone brings up - but does the history professor raise millions of dollars for the university, this only fuels their argument with the administration.
2. Not currently knowing the facts, the most likely scenario is that UT uses their influence to get the charges reduced to a misdemeanor and that gives them the necessary room to just suspend him for X number of games.
This is a sad and tragic event and after seeing how Beard reached out to JTT as he lay injured on the floor against UT last year, I don't hold him in the same negative regard as Rick Barnes. But after all that BU has gone through in the past, I can't help but sigh a sigh of relief that it is some other school having to deal with this and not Baylor.
