They may not have had much choice, but it was still the right thing to do.

My response...did his attorney really misspell 'coaching' in first sentence?

And what font is this?

I wonder how toxic he will be in the future.

This may hinder him from getting another head coaching job for some time.

Maybe after all the court cases are complete and some counselling (and maybe a donation or 2 to batter women operations) we will see him again prowling the sidelines.

Not sure his attorney is following a realistic plan. His job was cooked at UT with the 9-1-1 call. The recant by the fiancee and the somewhat creepy reference by his lawyer to video from the bedroom that would allegedly exonerate him, does not cover up the original statements, and supposed physical evidence (bite marks?) on the victim. If the aim is a protracted legal battle with the University that might possibly induce Texas to settle for a portion of the $35mm--enough to pay the legal bills and some walking away money--so be it. That process, however, will not make Beard any more hirable than he is now. If his aim is to get back into coaching (or commentating), the best recommendation is to ask for forgiveness, get himself into therapy, aim for a road back in 2-5 years, and make sure the video never sees the light of day.

so let me get this straight. "investigation" not done properly if done at all, wrong conclusion. innocent man. no charges/charges won't stick. yet the coach is fired.

why does this sound familiar?

Because it's what every lawyer says in that situation.

Agree. If the attorney statement is correct, I suppose UT got enough evidence to fire for cause and the attorney wants to claw back money for Beard (and himself).

Beard would best fess up, do some counseling, find religion and wait patiently for an assistant job somewhere decent or a head coaching position at a low profile place. He could always coach in Russia or someplace while he rehabs his image.

I may be wrong as I am not attorney but I am guessing that the DA decided to move forward with felony charges instead of reducing to misdemeanor. If a misdemeanor they had room to wiggle but not felony charges.

Either way, he should be gone. I would want him gone from my school if that happened.

He could easily get an assistant job or behind scenes job in NBA..the association is littered with head coaches with a domestic violence past .. Chauncey Billups..Jason Kidd .the guy in Boston who replaced Udoka was arrested in Morgantown when he played for Huggie.

I genuinely struggle with the line between arrest and conviction. Especially in a domestic. You get really mad, a partner calls 911 and makes a false report. You may be innocent but too late.

Oddly, domestic violence did not seem to hurt Britney Griner become a national hero.

So Friday late before Christmas the fianc (former?) release a statement basically recanting the whole thing or anything that should warrant punishment

And then they fire him?

That makes it even worse. They coerced her and now Texas then dignified it was a lie by firing him.

Pretty funny

Isn't there some soccer coach being fired because it surfaced he and how wide of 35 years were in domestic violence counseling in 1990?

A great move for Texas would be Tang based on how he is doing at KSU to date. I'm not sure one season of experience would be enough for them though.

Bill Burr, one of the great philosophers of our time, has some thoughts on this
When the DA decides not to reduce it to a misdemeanor from a felony, that is when UT fires Beard. An incident occurred. That is fact. Whether or not he is convicted he violated his contract.

This isn't complicated. These agreements are pretty air tight.

His attorney will threaten to smear UT across every page claiming his client's innocence and claiming UT did him wrong until some money is paid. See Art Briles...

I have not read his contract so have no opinion on whether not being arrested violates it.

Simply contemplating in these situations does it make sense to consider arrest a violation vs. a conviction. If an angry partner calls the cops and says the other person attacked me with a knife, but it did not happen is it just to fire the victim of the hoax?
