After tonight and Arkansas all 3 need some work. Both games we appeared to struggle with aggressive defense pushing out. We need some pick and roll action when this happens. Ran one successful with Flo but that was all I saw.
George was heroic at the end vs Arkansas but needed to stop the long ball 3s tonight. He cost us some key possessions and got lazy on defense a couple times. Fran even commented on it. He's a future NBA all star I get it but we won't go very far in March if we meet a long athletic team that can push out in man vs our guards. At some point we'll have an off shooting night. Drew needs to have a contingency plan because tonight it seemed to simply be hope someone gets hot shooting contested long balls or tough 2s.
George was a difference-maker at the end of the Arkansas game, and I'm not taking that away from him. But those spurts are fool's gold to some extent because they mask the fact that the was shooting 29.4 percent before hitting three tough, clutch shots in a row.
Those shots were huge, obviously, and they show the type of ability he has. But if he wasn't 5 for 17 before that, we might not have been in that situation.
The same was true tonight. He had two awesome takes in a row late in the game. But he followed that with a heat check 3 that was 100 percent unnecessary to finish 5 of 18 for the game. You're shooting 29 percent and you decide to put the outcome of the game on one 30-foot shot. Why???
