I often wonder if some of these long time coaches will retire with all this mess. It was hard enough to recruit before .

He's done..it's what pushed Jay Wright and Roy Williams and Coach K out.

He's not wrong but it's within the rules.

It's time for Boeheim to move on. He's 78, and can't compete in the new world of college basketball. If I was a Syracuse alum, I'd be pushing for it.

As long as they keep paying him $3MM a year, he ain't leaving.

Adapting isn't exactly a strength of old men.

That's not meant as a jab at any of the coaches mentioned in this thread, who are all legends. It's just a general truth.

If you can't roll with the changes without complaining constantly about the new landscape, it's probably time to step aside and let someone who can take your place.

Change can be bad. Usually, it's just different. The guys who will succeed are the ones who recognize this and make the necessary adjustments to what they're doing.

True, but NIL in its current form is poison and realizing that and pushing to have it changed is not a lack of ability or willingness to adapt. Its the wisdom of realizing what lies ahead is not good.

NCAA needs to put in guard rails to keep a competitive league. Pro teams vs Amateur teams is not competition its an exhibition.

NBA and NFL at least have salary caps to keep things competitive.

The NCAA has no jurisdiction here. The courts have already ruled that.

If the schools and conferences want to rein this in, it's going to be on them to do it.

But their actions will show that they don't really want to do that. They benefit too much monetarily from the rules (or lack thereof) as they currently exist. And everything in big-time college athletics is about money.

NCAA has no jurisdiction over individuals paying players but it does over schools paying players, which is what is happening in many cases.

That being said, I think Congress or schools should pursue equity.

Can you imagine Bobby Knight coaching in this mess. Do you remember he got mad way back on how Drew was recruiting?

Google 'Bernie Fine' and 'Laurie Fine'...it was huge when it happened..but about 80% of the media and executives graduated from Syracuse.

Austin NovoSAD was given an offer by Oregon at the same time he was offered $ 1 million (reportedly) by Oregon Donor Group. Oregon paid NovoSAD through a third party at the urging of an Oregon employee. It had nothing to do with intended name image likeness compensation. Its pay to play. Ray Charles can see that.

It may never change and probably won't any time soon, but courts changing their minds on the law or the law changing is not an uncommon event especially when unintended consequences become unbearable which I foresee.

Who's money it is matters. Universities have been raising funds for years to improve the perks they can offer prospective recruits. This really isn't that different. Donors' money is just landing directly in athletes' bank accounts now instead of being spent on exorbitant facilities upgrades and amenities.
