Wow. Hysterical. I guess I was shocked for a second at how universal the idea was to schools outside of Texas!

Assuming the LHN continues in its current form after the move (and I've seen nothing to indicate it won't) I'm wondering how that's going to go over with their new conference mates. And I find it ironic that purportedly the "last straw" for the aggys that sent them packing for the SEC was the introduction of the LHN and the perceived unfair advantage it would give UT. So now they're perfectly fine with it??

Can't quote anything or point you to anything, but what I have heard from guests on Smoak's show, the LHN will be going away as soon as ESPN can get it done. May have heard wrong, but that is what I THINK I heard.

I assume Texas vs Vandy or Mizzou will be the new LHN football game for the season??

I believe that our brethren in the SEC should have the pleasure of watching reruns of Longhorn triumphs

LHN going away. Failure for ESPN and SEC won't allow it. Only thing it was good for was Longhorn ego.

What is the source for this? Not insinuating you're wrong, but I haven't to date heard anything about the LHN going away other than the couple of posts in this thread indicating as much in a general sort of way.

"The Longhorn Network will be folded into the SEC Network," Del Conte said. "We have a year or two left with the Longhorn Network. Then, all that inventory stays with us."

From the perspective of everyone outside Texas (SEC, ESPN, etc), there will be no reason to keep the LHN once they have moved.

When has there ever been a reason for the LHN aside from ESPN and the selfish interests of UT itself?

Fortunately it's apparently soon to be ending life cycle coincided with one of most athletically unaccomplished periods in UT sports history and it really didn't have the unfair advantage impact that many feared it would when it was first introduced. Anyway - good riddance when it's finally gone.

I often wonder if Longhorn network money financed the scandal that took down Baylor football.

I think one of the big concerns was their airing high school football and using it as an inferred recruiting advantage. I don't think that ever happened?

The problem with such a dedicated network is that there is just not enough NEW material to fill up the time slots. I love Baylor sports, but I am not going to watch a rerun of any game (national championships included) umpteen times. I never watched the channel, but I assume it was 24x7? I can recall the days of stations signing off by at least midnight and then seeing nothing but test patterns and High Flight. My how times have changed......at not all for the best. LHN should have signed off a long time ago.

It will air right after the "Smokey and Friends 'Chanukah in Tennessee' Special".

True.

I'm sure based largely on the '00's time period which was a good decade for UT, including a football Natty and an additional appearance in another Natty game, along with Barnes and Conradt rolling in men's and women's bball, plus a high flying national baseball program, etc, ESPN anticipated more of the same with conference titles, national playoff appearances, national titles, Heisman winners, etc. rolling in like clock work every year. But of course with rare exception none of that has happened - especially in the major sports - since the LHN came on the scene and UT athletics has by and large descended into boring mediocrity on balance, forcing them to have to resort to things like endless reruns of bygone past successes that even the most rabid fans don't care to watch 500 times. Fresh, new programming would've likely still been a challenge even if the good times had continued, but it's really a problem when your major programs are on balance average at most. It should've never happened and it's good to see it finally go.

True. LHN never benefitted anyone except UT & ESPN. Now it's only the former & that's why it's going away.

SEC won't allow that. Lesson learned.
