Dudes played a whale of a game. Something to be said about a guys character who essentially loses all his PT yet remains humble and ready at any opportunity that might come. Today his redemption came and boy has he answered the bell

Spot on. Instead of pouting he stayed ready. Would have been tempting for him to just mentally check out being in his last year of eligibility.

Amazing game by him. I love the spark he provided. And Bridges was exceptional. Fought for every board.

Bonner was terrific! He brought a lot of energy on both sides of the floor. He was all over the place on defense, deflecting passes and creating havoc. And I was impressed with the confidence he had on offense. He has not played much at all lately, but he did not hesitate to take a shot if left open and even take his man off the dribble on a few occasions. I had forgotten that he is really quick.

I think we are a much tougher team with Bonner on the floor in lieu of George. If he can score like he did tonight, I would love to see some playing time adjustments.

Bonner should get more time, but not at the expense of our main guys like George or Flagler. I see minutes available behind Bridges. Bonner should replace Lohner in the rotation.

Loved to see Dale at his best! Or has he already reached his ceiling? I hope we see more of him in the next two games & post season & watch him surpass the new bar he has established.

I have definitely had my reservations about Dale in the past and am extremely happy to see how much he was ready to prove me and anyone else who doubted his ability wrong when a new opportunity surfaced. I'm very proud of you Dale!!

With Bonner playing as well as he is right now, I don't think our team has dropped off at all even with a player or two out. His ball handling, defensive intensity, and attitude have been a shot in the arm. His offensive production has been a nice bonus.

Hopefully we get Love and Key back on Saturday. Dale has proven he deserves rotation minutes even when the team is fully healthy, so that new rotation would need time to gel. ISU and a couple games in the big 12 tourney would give us time to integrate Bonner with everyone healthy.

The thing that has impressed me most is the confidence Dale is playing with on the offensive end. It's almost like he felt he had something to prove.

Before he lost his playing time, it wasn't that he was doing a lot of bad things during his time in the floor. He just wasn't doing anything. His timidness on the offensive made him a non-factor. That has changed dramatically the last two games. He's hit the floor looking to make himself a factor, and good things have happened as a result.

Dale clearly makes us a better defensive team. And when he's playing the way he has the past two games, we don't lose much, if anything, on offense.

As the self-declared president of the Dale Bonner fan club, I couldn't be more thrilled with what he's done these past few days. I've always felt he had it in him to be a quality Big 12 guard. It looks like he's finally made that realization and is doing more of the things that made him a special offensive player at Fairmont State before making the jump to DI.

Dale was showing a little blow-by ability yesterday!

KG can do things no one on this team can do offensively, but a big knock on him is he hasn't shown elite quickness off the dribble yet. It would be amazing if DB can give us a little more of that to at least suck in the defense for our outside shooters.

Defensive efficiency stats have creeped up after the past two games with Bonner on the floor. We were sitting at mid-90s on KenPom but we're now ranked 88th. Given that it's only two games, it probably means Bonner makes us a mid-50s defensive efficiency team, which would make us a final four team with our offense.

He can guard a primary ball handler, freeing up LJ and Flagler for a better-suited matchup.

His weak side help defense is on point. He takes a few more risks than I'm comfortable with but it's worth it.

He did a defensive move I don't think I've ever seen before. He was setup overplaying a ball screen when the OSU ball handler ghosted the screen and went opposite way. Bonner did a full 360 away from the screen to close the gap and take away the momentary advantage the ball handler had. I had to rewind a few times because I've never seen a primary defender do a 360 AWAY from the screen and it worked!

He still tries to make one pass too many. He swings the ball very well on the perimeter (that's great!), but it seems like he almost wants to defer to the amazing scorers around him when the floater is right there for him. In particular:

He had a defender on his left hip and he just needed to elevate over the post help off the glass and he forced a pass to a cutting Caleb Loehner on the baseline who stepped out of bounds. On the stat sheet that counts against CL but it was DB's fault.

The pass at the end of the first half should not have been made. He should have put that ball off the glass instead of throwing left block to right wing. I get that LJ was out there and he almost made it, but that's such a high degree of difficulty execution. Especially with EJ in the vicinity. There's only one player in the world who can execute that pass regularly and he plays for the Dallas Mavericks.

He handed AF and LJ a few too many grenades. My guess is that AF and LJ didn't care, but ESPN recently ran a piece on what a faux pas that is at the NBA level.

Overall, very impressed with him and I hope he takes a COVID extra year and is back next year. He and Langston Love and Josh O could be the foundation of a lockdown defense.

Yep, need to maximize the time on the court to get comfortable. Drew likes to establish rotations and tighten up early so this is new for him with a fresh rotation so late in the year. Will be interesting to see.

George, Cryer, and Flagler are starting if healthy. I could see the alternative lineups of Cryer, Flagler, Bonner staggered with George, Love, Flagler. When Flagler needs to rest I don't know what he will choose.

He just wasn't hitting shots and had lost confidence. To be fair Its hard to go in and know you're on a tight trigger. You can tell these last few games where he knows he will play and not be pulled, he looks more comfortable out there.

Prior to these last two games he was sub 30% from 3 on the year and 0% in big 12 play. He was also 2/16 in big 12 play from the field. The defense wasn't enough to overcome that level of offensive output. Now that he is confidently knocking those down it changes everything I agree.

Hope he can fit with George and Love back and we have 5 true guards to rotate. I agree George and Cryer should be staggered much of the time.

It wasn't even about hitting shots, he wasn't even taking them. I agree on the culprit, a loss of confidence, but he was routinely passing up shots that you have to take, whether you're hitting them or not, to keep a defense honest.

It's been like night and day the last two games. He's stepping into shots with confidence and taking advantage of a quick first step off the dribble. He has those capabilities, he's just rarely had the confidence to showcase them at this level. That trepidation would appear to be gone, hopefully never to return.

Ja'Kobe is an elite 2 way player who will immediately be the best perimeter defender we've had since Davion and Teague. Teague's defense was always extremely underrated BTW, I guess playing next to Davion it was easy to see how Teague's defensive impact was overshadowed.

Can anybody who is good at those things grab the clip of Bonner on D that starts at 6:36 to go in the second half? I can't stress how delightful and creative the whole sequence is. Fights over the initial screen and when the ball handler goes away from the secondary screen Bonner 360's back into position. The spatial awareness and creativity is Davion Mitchell-esque. Just an amazing sequence.

Hopefully the Dale Bonner we're seeing now is what we'll get the rest of the year. If that's the case, I don't see why he shouldn't jump to top 3 status in guard minutes. If he can continue to score like he has the last 2 games, what he brings in toughness and defensive play puts him over the top. He brings swagger back to a team that has been criticized for being a finesse team all year.
